"Parker, slow down! My strides aren't as long as yours." I yelled at Parker who was like five yards ahead of me. We planned on going on a run after New Years so that's what we were doing. But Mr. Fantastic over here had super long legs, so he was really far ahead of me. So I was basically running by myself.
We made up a while ago, I forgave him for the Instagram comment, but we still hadn't seen each other since break. And school had just started up again. So that's when the running idea came to mind, he needed to train for baseball, and I needed a work out.
"Keep up slow poke." He shouted back. I took in a long breath, man I was so tired.
"You know, it was the turtle who won that race, not the harre." I shouted back, I sounded so winded. I stopped, and started walking, my hands on my hips. I was breathing like I had asthma. Parker ran back towards me, only taking three strides. Jeesh. He was barely breaking a sweat. We'd run two miles already!
"Yeah but you're more of a snail." He said smirking. He flashed his familiar smile. I was annoyed with him, but it was contagious and I smiled too. I shoved him in his arm a little.
"Whatever." I replied to him.
"Come on, we should be heading back anyway." Then I got a great idea.
"Fine... But let's make it interesting... We race to that tree" I pointed to a tree about a block from where we were standing. "If I win, you have to give me a piggy back all the way back to my house. If I loose then you can pour a gallon of freezing water on my head." On the way to meet for the run, we met at my house, Parker had stopped by Kroger to get a gallon of freezing water, but I told him to leave it in our fridge so he didn't have to carry it. Haha....Now I know what your thinking.
Parker is going to shame me in this race, but just because he has long strides it doesn't mean I could beat him. I held the schools PR for the 200 meter dash in track. I was really fast, if you don't believe me, just wait till spring and track season is back.
"Okay, get your bathing suit ready princess." He scoffed.
"Eat my dust dingo."
"1...2..-"
"3!!" I called before I dashed towards the tree. The wind whipping past my face at the speed. At first he took the lead, but just like I suspected I ended up beating him by a mere couple steps. Ha! He had to carry me for the next 1.5 miles. Loser.
As we neared my house I jumped down from his back, giving him mercy. He was upset about his loss at first but sucked it up, up until the first twenty minutes, that's when he was dog tired. When we got to the porch of my house, he collapsed on the floor dramatically. I giggled.
"You know, for a flyer, your really heavy. I don't know how, Quinn and Macy do it." He remarked between heaves.
"I'm not heavy, your just weak." I replied, self consciously. I was not heavy. I'm a good size. Stupid boys. I kicked his rib cage, playfully.
"Okay, okay. Your not heavy." Parker said in surrender. "Help me up." He lifted a hand and I yanked him as hard as I could. He got up and followed me inside. Parker grabbed his giant jug of water and back pack before walking back outside, I mean it was a school night. I walked ahead of him and down the stairs when it hit me.
The ice water came crawling down my spine, freezing my core. It bit and stung. It felt like I was burning, though it was ice temperature. The water wrapped around my torso strangling me in its tight grasp. It slithered its way down to my legs and some towards my hair. It felt like a python the way it coiled it's way around me. I let out a high pitched scream and whipped around to see Parker laughing at me. I shoved him, which made him stumble backwards, but it didn't faulted his laughs. Butt cheek. My mother came rushing outside, analyzing the situation before smiling and placing a hand over her mouth. Suppressing laughter.
