Edward and I have been getting closer and closer day by day. I've gotten attached to him so fast. He made it so easy. We've been texting nonstop all day, and every day. We always talk, he really is trying to do everything he can to get to know me better. I just still couldn't get it through my head that he was my professor. That shouldn't even be legal. But I didn't care, I wanted him deep down. I just couldn't tell him, not yet. I decided to go to the gym, they had a swimming pool.
I needed a good workout.
I am about two and a half feet above the water; I stare at it, and it stares right back at me. My goggles give the water a crystal blue tint that taunts me; the water thinks it is better than I am. From the height of the block, the black tile that runs down the center of every lane appears to me as a runway. In just a few seconds I will be moving down that runway, trying to take off above the water. My eyes will be focused on that tile, to make sure I am in the center of my lane. I can see the water grinning and laughing at me now; I am standing on the block with my knees almost to the point of shaking. The water can tell how nervous I am.
Right now, it is so calm and smooth, beckoning me to dive in. But in just a few seconds, the glass blueness will be turned into a churning white mass as the swimmers churn through it, causing a wake to run across the pool. For now, it is still laughing at me, though, with my toes tightly wrapped around the edge of the block, my bad!
Mine coiled up like a spring ready to explode. As if I did not have enough to worry about with my race coming up, and the calmness the pool, the silence of the pool area adds to it.There is absolutely NO noise, which amplifies the tranquility of the pool.
The water is not the sole enemy I have in my race because it is working with the time clock to destroy my race. Right now it is set at 0:00, which seem so empty and heartless. It does not like to feel so hollow, and once it gets to start, it does not want to stop. Somehow the clock has talked to pool into being its partner in crime, and they are both against me."This is the 50-yard freestyle. Swimmers, take your mark.."
BEEP. My body releases, my legs exploding from their coiled position. My head darts up, my eyes searching for the imaginary hole I am going to slide my body through. Once I find it, my head is tucked between my arms, and my hands and arms stiffen to prepare for the entry into the pool.
Clear but blue, the water glides over me, wrapping me and a cold cocoon. The water is alive with the movement, as is all water the slides and flows.
I quickly threw my sweatpants on and over-sized sweater and went home. I had to help my mom prepare for tonight.
The whole family was coming over my house. Alice,Juliet, Demetri, Aunt Sophia, Aunt Antonia, Uncle Jerry, and Uncle Tommy. Sophia didn't want to have a bachelorette party, so she got the family together for a karaoke night at my place.
Before I went home, I stopped by the supermarket. I knew we needed food and lots of snacks.
Fruit is a sweet treat. Cut up a few of their fave fruits and arrange them in a pretty pattern on a plate. I bought pineapple, cantaloupe, strawberries, grapes, bananas, mango and kiwi.
I used to beg our mother to make caramel popcorn. I loved melting down the hot caramel topping and then taking turns shaking the brown paper bag as hard as we could until each kernel was coated with a sticky, toffee-like layer. Waiting for the popcorn to cool enough to eat down was just torture! The only difference making it these days is that now I don't have to beg. I can just buy a bag. I grabbed a bag and threw it in the cart.
I bought ice cream, Vanilla Ice Cream. Chocolate Ice Cream. Strawberry Ice Cream. Coffee Ice Cream.Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream.Cookie Dough Ice Cream. I bought coffee because I knew that once we sit and gossip there's no looking back. The men would want salsa and chips, I bought the cheese dip and the spinach dip.
