"Kagoya, Wake up!" my father screamed from the room next to mine. I yawned.
"Now."
"Fine! Hold you fish!" I yelled back. I huffed. Typical morning, always yelling. Why can't he just come and get me? I thought. I threw on my usual school clothes and ran to the dining room. My little sister, Soya, was already eating with my grandmother. I sat down beside her.
"So, any boys you like yet?" I teased, helping her braid her dark black hair. She shook her head.
"Happy Birthday, Kagoya!" my grandmother said, sliding me a gift. I opened it to find a keychain with a jewel on it, sparkling in the sunlight.
"That is called the sacred jewel of four souls." She explained. I stood.
"Demons in the...wait where are you going!" she shouted as I slid on my shoes and started to head out the door, scooping up my backpack.
"Gotta go, Ma 'ma!" I called back. My family lives at an old shrine. Ma'ma has told me so much about it. I stood at the top of the stairs leading to my house and spun around. My friend, Kagome, was at the entrance of the old well we have. I ran over to her.
"Happy Birthday, Kagome." I said as I stopped next to her.
"Happy Birthday, Kagoya." She replied, still looking at the well. I looked around her to see her little brother, Sota, holding their cat's, Buyo's, bowl of food.
"Is he down there again?" I asked. She nodded.
"Go on down." I allowed her. I followed her down the shrine's steps and saw the cat on top of the well she grabbed him and turned around with me next to her. That's when our birthdays' got weird.
