Chapter 1: 10 Hours Until Dawn

I wake up on the bus to Sam elbowing me pretty hard.

"We are at our stop lazy bones, come on!" She smiles. I stand up, grabbing my phone and my suitcase. I wipe some drool off of my cheek and yawn. "You look tired..." She says, following me off the bus.

"Sorry, I didn't sleep very good last night, thinking about last year..." Sam sighs.

"This year will be different, we will have lots of fun up here at the lodge, I can feel it!" She says, throwing her hands up in the air. The bus rolls away and I walk behind Sam. I smile and take a deep breath.

"Okay, okay. I'm going to think positive for everyone's sake, for Josh's sake."

"Ooh, maybe with a little positivity you will get lucky, and you and Josh will hook up." She cheers.

"Sh-shut up, t-that's not what I meant..." I stutter as we reach the cable car station.

"Chris?" Sam shouts I look around. I see movement in the trees, but I know it's probably a deer. Chris's phone buzzes in his backpack, making me jump. Sam picks it up.

"Ashley?" She whispers.

"Hey ladies!" I jump and squeal.

"CHRIS, YOU ASS!" I say, smacking his shoulder.

"Relax, jeez." He says, turning to Sam.

"A-are you my secretary?" He says sarcastically.

"I-it was buzzing." She says as he snatches it from her hands.

"Thank you!" He says, grinning at the screen and shoving his phone in his pocket. He turns to me.

"You guys are not gonna BELIEVE what I found out back!" He says. "It's gonna blow your mind!" He says, making an explosion with his hands. Sam follows him out back while I sit on the bench waiting. I hear gunshots and realize what he found. After a while I hear footsteps and look over. Sam and Chris walk back and stop by me.

"Our ride's here." She says as I stand up.

"It's locked?" she says, jiggling the doorknob to the inside of the station.

"Yeah, Josh said they wanted to keep people out, said they found people sleeping in it one time."

"Creepy..." Sam whispers, unlocking the door with the key Chris gave to her. We walk in and she hands the key back to Chris.

"Awe, I thought it was closer." Sam mutters as we watch the cable car slowly approach. I look around, seeing maps and papers on the wall. The cable car arrives and the door slides open.

"Ready to come back for the reunion?" Chris turns to me. I take a deep breath.

"I think so..." I check my phone.

To Lil Sis:
Hey, I made it off the bus alive, what's your travel progress?

To Mikey:
Me, Sam and Chris on on our ride in the cable car. This thing is slow as hell, but we will make it eventually.

I shut my phone off and look out the cable car window. The snow storm really isn't that bad, yet. I trace the heart tattoo on my wrist that I got while Hannah was getting the butterfly on her shoulder. I smile and see Sam looking at me.

"I remember that day. Hannah was so excited that you were gonna go and get a tattoo with her..." I smile, remembering Hannah being so hyper that day.

"Yeah... it was truly amazing how hyper she was that day." I mutter under my breath.

"I don't mean to break up the girly reunion but we are here." Chris says out of the blue.

"Sorry for not including you, Mr. Obvious." I whisper. He smiles and holds his hand out to help me off the cable car.

"Thanks..." I say, weirded out that Chris is being a gentleman instead of rocking the cable car while I try to get out.

"Hello? Hello!?" Chris shouts, turning the locked knob back and forth. I look out the window. Nothing. I hear the buzzer as the door is unlocked.

"Looks like someone is waiting for another, I presume?" Chris says, snatching Jessica's notebook out of her hands.

"Give that back!" She says, reaching her hand out to grab it.

"Look, our dear friend Sam here has taught me that other people's business is my personal playground." He says, reading through. I stare at Jessica, rolling my eyes at the fact that she has this crush on my brother. I watch as Chris and Jessica fight over the notebook.

"Look, Emily and Mike are over, and now me and him are together, it's that simple." She says.

"I'm gonna go ahead then..." I say to Sam and she nods.

I walk down the path, hoping to get to the lodge soon. I am freezing and I have multiple jackets on. The storm has gotten a little worse since we got off the cable car. I cross my arms and walk through, only being able to see a few feet in front of me through the snow and the trees. I grab my phone with slightly numb fingers and turn on the flashlight. I look around and see the top of a large, cabin-like building.

"Fucking finally!" I say, heading in that direction. I hear a scream that almost sounds human, but I know it's not. I walk faster and look around with the flashlight on my phone. I hear the sound again and I run. I trip over a rock and fall. My hands go completely numb as I push myself back up to my feet. I keep running forward, towards the lodge.

"RAAAAHH!!!!" I hear as something jumps from the trees. I scream and fall backwards, covering my face with my arms.

"Gotcha, didn't I?" Josh laughs.

"My god Josh, you could have literally KILLED me." I mutter under my breath. I breathe hot air onto my hands and look up at him. Josh lends out a hand, realizing I'm still on the ground. "Thanks..." I mutter.

"I'm really glad you came... er, that everyone came back for the anniversary... it means the world to me... and to them..." He says, grabbing my numb hand as we walk down the path. I blush, turning to look at the trees.

"Yeah, I get it Josh, Hannah and Beth are probably so happy everyone came back to be here for them... even if everyone else wouldn't have come, I know I would've, whether Mike was or not. Beth and Hannah were my friends, why the others played that prank on Hannah? I have no idea, all I know is I ran after them, but I.." Josh wraps me into a hug and I press my face into his shoulder.

"Just... thank you Claire." He says, ruffling my hair. I fix my hair and put my beanie back on.

"You ruined my perfect winter fashion statement!!" I whine like a five year old. He chuckles and pulls me closer to his side.

"I've always been grateful, you will always be my best friend." He says, watching the path ahead. I smile and I feel my face get hot.

"Hey Ash!" I say, running over to Ashley, who is sitting on the stairs.

"Hey Josh, the front door is forzen shut..." Ashley says, rubbing her hands together, sitting closer to me to keep ourselves warm. Chris and Sam show up, Chris trailing off with Josh to find a way to get in while I take a seat next to Ashley.

"Hey Ash, how's the romance between you and Chris?" I whisper. She playfully elbows me and I lean against the railing.

"I... can't... breath..." I say, pretending to have the wind knocked out of me.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry C! I didn't-"

"Relax, I'm just kidding ya' Ash." I say and she grabs her chest.

"I seriously thought I hurt you." She says. I look down and see my knee is dirty. I pull the leg of my jeans up and see my knee is bleeding.

"Oww... are you okay?" Sam asks. I nod.

"It doesn't hurt as bad as this fucking weather." I say. I look over and Chris is at the door, smiling and waving through the small window.

A/N: Sorry if you thought this chapter was short but I checked and it says that chapter one only lasted until Josh and Chris found out that the lock to the lodge was frozen shut, so you can freeze your mouth shut if you have any criticism, otherwise, please give me feedback.
