When Charlotte woke up the next morning warm sunlight was leaking out from under the thick cream colored curtains. The bed she was in felt soft and comforting; it seemed as though she had indeed been able to find and claim a kind of warm sanctuary, just as she had hoped.
The windows were very thick and no sound reached her ears, she couldn't even hear birds chirping outside. Pure seclusion. She wanted to check the time but there was no clock inside her room and she was reminded of the fact that she had given up her phone. She wondered whether or not she was allowed to get up, but assumed that it wouldn't matter as he had not mentioned anything in regards to this yet. She pushed the duvet aside and stood up, heading for the bathroom.
When she returned she noted again how large the room was, before wandering over to the shelf filled with an assortment of boxes and books. Charlotte stepped closer to examine her options. She picked out one of the coloring books and pulled out the desk chair. She found a set of coloring pencils and proceeded to busy herself with the filling out of the first page of the coloring book, which featured an octopus dusting off a shipwreck. As she coloured she wondered what he was doing - whether or not he was still asleep - and what the day had in store for her. She was mildly tempted to open up and go through the clothes in the wardrobe, but chose ignorance in favour of future surprises.
Again she felt the warmth spread through her stomach which was initiated by the peace and the simplicity of using colouring pencils to decorate pictures. She smiled a little and dug her feet into the carpet beneath the desk.
This was it.
