The sun was high in the sky, with no clouds in sight.
The horses were sweating ever so slightly; taking the reins into one hand he dismounted and moved to stand beside Charlotte's saddle. He opened his arms, beckoning for her to allow him to lift her out of the saddle and onto the ground. She obliged, placing her hands onto his shoulders to let him help her dismount. Once on the ground he wrapped his arms around her in a comforting embrace.
"It's a hot day, how would you like it if we took a little break from riding and went to sit in the shade by the little stream over there? There is a little food and water in the saddle bags." he said quietly into her ear. Charlotte looked up in the direction he was pointing and nodded.
He took her hand in his and together they walked toward the patchy shade at the edge of the field, leading their horses by the reins.
Charlotte was still feeling somewhat shaky, and the area between her legs felt slightly raw, reminding her of the ride she would have to endure on the way home. The sun was shining warmly on her shoulders and trees skirting the field were glowing yellow and green.
At the edge of the field he took a beige blanket from the saddle bag and spread it out on the grass in front of them. Then he looped the reins of the horse around a low branch and beckoned for Charlotte to sit down, placing the bag beside her. He patted his horse and sat down on the blanket, leaving as much space between himself and Charlotte on the blanket as he could.
From the bag he took a box of strawberries, nuts and seeds, a bottle of water and small sandwiches of cheese and jam. Charlotte smiled at him touched by the preparations he had undertaken for this outing and shuffled closer to him, taking no note of the raw feeling between her legs. He smiled back at her and took a camera out of the bag before placing it onto the grass beside him.
