"Ahh!" We ran out of the tree house after an hour of sitting there and staring up at the stars. It started pouring, so we ran to the car.
"Get in!" Jason laughed as we scrambled to get in the car. We were soaked when we sat down.
"Ahh. I'm sorry. I got the seat all wet." I said, feeling the car seat.
"It's fine! Don't worry about it." He said as we drove off towards my house.
"What time is it?" I asked.
"Almost 10:30."
"Damnit." I mumbled to myself.
"What's wrong?"
"My dad. He'll be mad."
"Well do you want-"
"No, it's fine. I'll be okay."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. I promise."
"Alright." He said. We talked the rest of the way home and we finally stopped at my house. I sucked in a breath.
"Are you sure you'll be okay?"
"Yeah. I'm used to it." He winced at that. I was really used to it. It's been going on for at least 4 years.
It was still pouring. We ran to the door and stood in front of the house.
"Thanks. I had a great time tonight. It's good to get out once in a while." I shouted over the pounding rain.
"I did too." He said. He took my head in his hands and we looked into each other's eyes for a minute. His eyes were beautiful, even in the pouring rain. And it happened.
He leaned in and kissed me.
Smack-dab on the lips. In the rain. It started out gentle, but got more passionate. When we pulled away, he whispered something to me.
"I've been waiting to do that for so long."
I giggled and blushed.
"I'll see you soon, Sophie." He said in my ear. "Stay safe." He turned around and ran back to his car.
"I will." I called after him.
I opened the door with a smile on my face and leaned against the closed door, thinking about the night.
"Where the hell have you been?" I heard my dad's slurred voice.
"I was with-"
"Don't say anything!" He pushed me against the wall and shook me. "Don't do that again! Who do you think you are!? It's almost 11:00 and you're supposed to be home at 8!"
I started screaming for mercy. He pushed me to the ground and tears streamed down my face.
"Dad! Please! Stop!" I yelled, just hoping for someone to hear.
"Sophie!" The door bursted open and Jason flew in, knocking my dad off of me. He knelt down over me. My nose was bleeding.
"Are you okay!?" He said close to my face.
"Who the hell are you!?"
"I'm J-"
"Get off of my daughter!" My dad said and punched Jason.
"Dad!"
"Shut your mouth." He snapped at me. He punched Jason repeatedly and I stood up, pushing my dad.
"Dad! Stop! Or I'll call the police!"
"You wouldn't!" He shouted back at me.
"I would." I threatened, shaking the whole time. He ran out the door and I fell to the ground, sobbing uncontrollably.
"Sophie." Jason held me in his arms.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean..." I trailed off, not finishing my sentence.
"Shh. It's okay. I'm here for you."
"I'm scared." I whimpered.
"I'll always be here. I promise."
