The village is buzzing with excitement this evening. The day the Elven Warriors return from immensely dangerous Wars. I am five years of age and struggle to find a view in the large crowds outlining the streets. I hold tight to my tiny bow with fake arrows. I want to raise my voice at people to change their position so that I could see. My father will be approaching soon and I'm practically jumping out of my skin to see him. Eventually I manage to sneak through a confined hole in the crowd only a moment before the Warriors pass. They seem to pass rather quickly as my eyes wander over the longing faces. Soon a familiar face comes into view.
My dad's best friend! He has dark brown locks flowing above his head and soft brown eyes. I run over to him like many civilians do to greet loved ones. "Greetings Sadim," I say proudly. He looks down at me his eyes becoming unusually gentle. I crane my neck to look around as I ponder, "Where is my father?" Sadim grabs my shoulder and pulls me off to the side of the street. He crouches down on his haunches to be eye level with me. I study his eyes once more. Water bubbles up in them and makes my stomach lurch. "Oh Famila," he says tears overflowing from his eyes," your father has perished in battle. I'm so sorry." Then and there I freeze. My bow and fake arrows fall to the ground.
Over the years I decided not to talk to anyone or go outside to interact with the other Elf children. It took me 24 years to finally recuperate from loosing my father in a battle and my mother from sickness.
At that time I had no idea that I would be walking down the same street as my father and Sadim. But, what is worse is that I was unaware of my secret until now.
