Demi Lovato
Don't wanna break your heart
Wanna give your heart a break
I know you're scared its wrong
Like you might make a mistake
There's just one life to live
And there's no time to wait, to wait
So let me give your heart a break
Give your heart a break
Let me give your heart a break
Your heart a break
There's just so much you can take
Give your heart a break
Let me give your heart a break, give your heart a break

Ashton couldn't believe it.
He stayed silent in disbelief.
Out of 10,000 people who entered the contest, Mina was one of the lucky 1,000 to win. Her odds were great, but Ashton couldn't believe it.
"You're serious?"
"YES ASHTON COME WITH ME!" She yelled. She sobbed in her happiness.
"Ab-absolutely." Ashton stuttered out.
He hung up the phone, letting out a disbleiving laugh.
"So you're going to a concert with your best friend." Kayla said, laying her head back down on Ashton's chest. "That'll be fun."
Ashton nodded, tangling his fingers in her hair.
"You love her, don't you."
Ashton's heart raced.
He pulled her hair to make her look at him, a smirk on her face.
He kissed her with one hand wrapped in her hair and the other on her cheek. "Shut up." He growled.
"This week has been the best of my life." She smiled, kissing him sweetly. "Thank you."
"Of course." He tucked a few strands of hair behind her metal studded ear.
"Also..." She bit her lip. "You're amazing in bed." She kissed him again and they went for round two.
Two weeks left until school started, the next day they drove home.
On their first day back, Mina greeted him at home with Anna, Harry, and Lauren.
Ashton was tackled by Harry and Lauren. He hugged both of them tightly, as he hadn't been home for more than a day at a time all summer.
He said hello to Anna, scooping her up in his arms while she squealed and giggled.
"Hi, Ash." She said, giving him a hug around his neck.
"Hi, sweetie." He planted a kiss to her cheek and set her down. She was already four years old, stringing words together and making up stories.
Kayla said hello to the kids and Mina before going up to Ashton's room.
Ashton greeted his mother with a tight bear hug and a kiss to her cheek.
"We've missed you." She said.
"I know, I'm sorry. But Kayla and I have been having a lot of fun travelling the east coast."
His mother let out a small laugh, a closed smile on her face. "I'm glad."
The tone in her voice said otherwise.
"Don't lie to me." Ashton put a hand on her shoulder. "What's wrong?"
His mother sighed. "Mina's been having a hard time. She's been staying with us for the summer."
Ashton just looked at the floor, then back up to his mother.
"I'm sorry. If you or her had told me-"
"Neither of us wanted to ruin your fun. She made sure she went out when you came home as not to be a bother."
"Ma, she's my best friend. She's my favourite person other than you and the kids."
"I know, honey, she's just scared. She's going through a lot this year."
"I know, I know." Ashton sighed, running a hand through his tussled hair.
Kayla came back downstairs with her suitcase all packed. She had stayed most nights with Ashton after prom. She didn't want the ridicule from her parents about her boyfriend.
"Ash, can I...talk to you," she started, chewing her lip. "Outside? Just for a second."
Ashton nodded. "Sure." And went out onto the front porch with her.
She closed the door behind her and let out a deep sigh.
"Ashton." She took his hands.
"You're breaking up with me, aren't you?" He asked, looking at his feet.
"I'm sorry, I just..." she sighed again. "I see the way you are with her. Mina. You act more than just friends, more than best friends. You love her, Ashton. I don't want to put you through any more heart stress than you're already under."
Ashton sniffled, holding back his tears.
"Ash." She put one hand on his cheek. "I love you, really. But you could never love me like you love her."
"Kayla, you're wrong. Please don't do this."
"You can't hide your heart from her forever."
"Mikayla you have to believe me. I love you. You're not her, you're you and I love you, so god damn much. Please listen to me." Ashton pleaded. He let the tears fall from his hazel eyes.
Kayla ran her delicate hands through his hair. "I don't mean to break your heart."
He pulled her closer and kissed her.
Their most passionate kiss, their deepest kiss, their last kiss.
Eyes closed and foreheads pressed together, they said three heartbreaking words to each other for the last time.
"I love you."
Kayla held his hand for a second before walking away. She let her fingers trail away from his, trying to tell him she would always love him.
Ashton stood on the porch and watched her walk away. She didn't live far away, just a mile or so.
He wiped his eyes, and went back inside. He trudged up to his room, fiddling the silver rose ring in his hands.
"I promise, I'll always love you." He whispered, closing his bedroom door silently.
