The detective found Brendon in the corridor outside Bonnie's room.
He knew immediately from the look on the man's face that something had changed.
Not necessarily for the better.
But something.
"We've got another hit on the vehicle."
Brendon straightened.
"The SUV?"
"Yes."
"When?"
"Just after five this afternoon."
Brendon looked at him.
"Where?"
The detective gave him the name of the road.
It meant nothing to Brendon.
"How far from Trafalgar Square?"
"Far enough that we're starting to get a clearer picture of the route."
Brendon glanced through the glass panel in Bonnie's door.
She was still sitting in the hospital bed, talking quietly with a nurse.
"Does the camera show Abby?"
"We don't know."
The answer was immediate.
Too immediate.
Brendon looked back at him.
"You don't know?"
"The camera angle isn't good enough. We can see the vehicle. We can't see inside it."
"But she was in it."
"We believe so."
"Believe?"
The detective sighed.
"Mr. Urie, we're trying to establish exactly where she was moved. The fact that we have the same stolen vehicle on camera at another location gives us another point on the route."
Brendon nodded, forcing himself to stay calm.
"Then find the next one."
"We're trying."
"No."
His voice was quiet.
"You're going to."
The detective held his gaze for a moment.
Then nodded.
"Yes."
Within minutes, officers were pulling footage from every camera they could identify between Trafalgar Square and the latest sighting.
Traffic cameras.
ANPR.
Private security footage.
Cameras outside shops and petrol stations.
Anything that might have captured the dark SUV.
The vehicle appeared once.
Then again.
Then disappeared for almost twenty minutes.
Then appeared again.
The route was beginning to take shape.
It wasn't random.
The SUV hadn't simply driven around London until the occupants found somewhere quiet.
It had followed a deliberate route.
The detective stared at the growing map on the screen.
"That's not a coincidence."
