Chapter 8
"I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me."
-Fred Allen
I'd only been lying there for a moment, admiring my cool cat lamp when a knock sounded on my bedroom door.
Ugh, can't these people tell I'm busy doing nothing?
"Come in," I called, not moving from my lounging position on the bed. It was probably Skylar coming to talk more about Zack.
Damn kids.
But, it wasn't Skylar who walked through the door, it was Jackson.
Shit, is he still mad about me throwing him under the bus earlier in the kitchen? Is that why he came? To turn into the furry hulk and eat me?
My heart sped up a bit - there's no way I could defend myself if werewolf fake brother lost control and decided I was a twinkie.
"Uh, hey," I greeted him suspiciously, sitting up on the bed as he hovered near the door awkwardly.
"Can we talk?" He asked, coming to sit on the edge of the bedspread - facing me.
Psh, people never actually want to talk unless they're about to break up with you or tell you bad news. In this case, something tells me it's the latter.
"Sure, what did you want to talk about?" I asked curiously, studying his face for any give-away emotions. Unfortunately, fake-brother had the stoic look down pat as he fingered my Star Wars comforter.
That's right, feel the force.
"It's about Skylar and this new human boy," Jackson wrinkled his nose in disgust as if the word 'human' grossed him out.
I take offense to that, fake brother, humans are a cool race!
Actually, well...not really. We kind of suck and screw everything up, but still.
At least we're not fictional characters.
"You mean Zack?" I sighed, "Yeah, I know, it seems kind of sudden for her to like someone so fast, but she assured me she can handle this, and she's old enough to make her own decisions. I'm not going to stand over her shoulder and tell her how to run her love life."
Damn, who is that responsible young adult talking?
Oh, wait.
That's me.
"It is sudden, although that doesn't really surprise me," fictional brother rolled his eyes, "I mean, you know how Sky is. It doesn't take much for her to get attached quickly to someone. However, it kind of pisses me off that the first person she has a crush on just happens to be human."
Seriously, I'm right here, dude.
I'd at least like a meaningless 'no offense'.
Also, pretty sure fake brother just called Skylar clingy. Like he has any room to talk - has he read Wattpad's werewolf genre lately? Alpha's happen to the be the most entitled, whiniest and clingy little bitches ever. Just stay in your lane, Jackson.
"What's wrong with humans? Or are you just against inter-species relationships?" I fixed him with my best explain-yourself-before-I-smack-you glare.
He glared back for a few seconds before sighing in defeat, "Look, no offense or anything because you're my sister and I love you, but Skylar dating a human is a bad idea! The werewolf world is dangerous. What if someone wants to harm her? Is 'Mr. He-smoldered-at-me' going to protect her from a bunch of bloodthirsty rogues? Hell, a pup could come at her and ten bucks says he'd run for the hills! I say we tag-team on this and convince her just how much of a bad idea this before she starts dating him and falls in love. I mean, this kid won't understand our way of life and he's not suited for it, so we should nip this in the bud. What do you say, sis?"
