Chapter 15
"It is often easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission."
-Grace Hopper
"Absolutely not! To believe you three had the...audacity to ask such a ridiculous request is beyond me!" Shrieked Fake-mom, "Did you really believe I was actually going to say yes to such a thing? Once again, absolutely not!"
That's right.
Shortly after Jackson had mind-linked Beta Rodrick and learned we now had an appointment tomorrow with the Alpha King, Jackson and I were able to discuss a bit of a game plan for meeting the Alpha King. Slightly later, Skylar and Zack had returned, claiming they went for a "drive" - I guess we were just supposed to ignore the tousled hair and clothing, along with the little love bites dotted along Zack's neck.
After informing them just how soon we'd be meeting the Alpha King, Fake-twin had a bit of a freak-out, muttering how she knew this was a bad idea and she was just too young to die. Of course, Loverboy happened to be the only one capable of calming her down, and then left shortly after she was subdued by Jackson's request.
Well, more like Jackson growled at him a little too hard and Zack went running for the hills.
Then, only a short ten minutes or so later, fake-parents returned, bags of groceries in hand. Apparently, fake-mom had run out of some sort kitchen-cooking-blah-blah and needed to make an emergency grocery store run. Because we all know what kind of horrors and danger happens at Kroger, Fake-dad just had to tag along and "protect his mate" from the evils of the produce section.
A little convenient for the plot, hmm?
Which brings us to now.
The moment where Jackson had decided to tell fake-parents we had to go to London tomorrow. Because things can never just be fucking simple, we couldn't exactly tell them we had an appointment with the Alpha-King. They'd of course ask why, and then the whole rejection fiasco would come to light.
Unfortunately, the best explanation Pretend-brother had been able to come up with was, "We need to go to England tomorrow for an unspeakable reason to meet with an unspeakable person. Don't worry though! Expenses have been handled."
And you know how she responded to that.
"Mom, you don't understand," Jackson pleaded, "We need to do this."
"Oh? If you so need to just hop on a plane and fly to another country tomorrow - with both your sisters, might I add, then I just need an explanation, Jackson."
Fake-brother sighed, and leaned against the kitchen counter, facepalming. Skylar and I were off to the side, I was positioned particularly close to the fridge in case things got really interesting and I needed snacks.
"Mom, please," Skylar apparently decided it was time for her to chime in, "Trust me. If I could tell you, I would, but I can't. You just need to trust me."
Because we all know how trustworthy teenagers are. In the words of Judge Judy, "You know a teenager is lying when they open their mouths."
"Trust you? Skylar Gray, how dare you! You ask me to let all three of you fly into another country, offer no explanation and just expect me to 'trust you'? Tell me, sweetie, what parallel universe do you possibly think this is?"
A shitty Werewolf one, apparently.
It didn't take a genius to figure out that fake-mom wasn't going to budge, and that was kind of to be expected. Despite conveniently disappearing whenever the plot called for it, even fictional parents weren't dense enough to let three teenagers loose in a foreign country unsupervised.
