I opened my eyes and looked around. My entire body hurt, it hurt to even breath. I was collapsed on the cold floor, my bare body making me feel extremely venerable. My glasses were gone and without contacts I could barely see. I moved my arm and pain shot through it. I let out a small cry but forced myself onto my knees. I felt around for my glasses and my fingers brushed against them a few minutes later. I slid them on my face and noticed that one lens was completely shattered. What happened last night...
I looked around the bright room and noticed my phone on a dresser. I am at Travis's, that much I know. I slide to unlock my phone and a picture of Scott and I came up. I smiled weakly and pulled up his contact. I was about to press call when I realized how bad I must look. I shakily stood and made my way slowly to the bathroom, putting most of my weight in the walls and surrounding furniture. I looked at my reflection and cringed. My chest was covered in fresh cuts and bruises. My hair was messed up and my eyes were red and bloodshot. I had a red hand mark on my cheek. I sunk to my knees to pull out my bag from under the sink. It held my make up, pain pills and eye drops. I put some coverup on the handprint on my cheek and some drops in my eyes before popping a handful of pills in my mouth. I slipped on the clothing and looked at myself.
'Much better.' I thought. I grabbed my phone and called Scott. It rang a few times before going to voicemail.
I swore. Who could I call?
I will call Esther.
"Mitch?" She asked.
"Where is Scott...?" I asked.
"He is out to lunch with Kevin, Avi and Kirstie."
"Can you pick me up...?" I asked.
"Mitch..." She sighed.
"I am sorry Esther... He had an emergency." I said.
"Of course I'll get you. I will be there in 15." She said.
"Thank you! Thank you so much!" I said. I heard her laugh.
She hung up and I went and grabbed a shot glass and the vodka. I went to sit on the couch. I did about 5 shots, loving how it numbed the pain. I sat there trying to remember what happened last night when it all came flooding back to me. The memories, the pain, the screaming was all to much to take at once. My body rocked with heavy sobs as I was forced to relive that hellish night. I felt my whole body shaking and trembling. I couldn't breathe. I suddenly felt a warm pair of arms holding me tight to someone's chest. I sobbed as I heard Esther's soothing voice whisper to me.
"Breathe Mitch."
"You will be okay."
"I am here now."
"Please don't cry."
I kept my head firm on her shoulder. After about 10 minutes I felt my body being lifted into her arms and I held onto her neck as she carried me to her car. I curled into a ball and allowed her to buckle me into place. I leaned against the window and let the silent sobs continue to shake my small frame.
"Mitch... Hun, we're here. Can you walk?" She asked.
I nodded and got out, feeling her slide my arm around her shoulder. We walked together into hers and Avi's apartment. She sat me on her couch. I took a few deep breaths and was finally able to calm down. I was dizzy, from the alcohol and my nerves.
"Mitch..." She said hugging me.
I hugged her back.
"Sweetie... Are you drunk, you smell like alcohol."
I looked down and nodded.
"There was so much pain..." I mumbled, a tear slid down my face.
"Mitch, what happened?" She asked, wiping the year from my face.
I looked at her and she looked confused. I am not sure if alcohol was the best idea because I felt the need to tell her, even though I know the consequences.
"I need you to promise me something." I asked her.
"Anything."
"You have to swear to not tell anyone what I am going to tell you." I said.
"Okay..."
"Not Scott or Kirstie! Not Kevin or Avi or anyone else."
"Okay Mitch I promise." She said.
"And you CANNOT tell the police." I said. Her eyes widened.
"You are scaring me now Mitch." She said.
"Promise me!" I said, holding out my pinkie finger like a child.
She looped her small finger with mine.
"I promise." She said.
I took a deep breathe.
"For the past year and a half Travis has been beating and raping me... He hits me and kicks me... Burns me and cuts me... He rapes me almost every night..." I said sobbing, my voice breaking.
I heard her gasp and start sobbing. She pulled me into her arms and held me close. She pulled me into her lap and rubbed my back as we cried together. After a while our tears slowed.
"Why did you never tell anyone?" She asked.
"Travis said he would kill me if I ever told anyone." I squeaked.
She looked like she was going to cry again.
"Hey." I said. She looked up at me. "Everything will be okay..." I said. She smiled and hugged me again. I felt so exhausted from all the crying and before I knew it I was asleep, snuggled in the arms of Esther.

Avi

"I really don't know. I mean it is getting kind of annoying. He never really talked or takes part anymore." Scott said.
"True, but I mean... Maybe he is just having a hard time." Kirstie intervened.
"No! Mitch has fucking everything! A great boyfriend, an amazing job, us. He is just being a whinny bitch!" Scott said.
"Scott!" Kevin said. "You and Mitch are best friends, give him some slack!"
"Best friends don't keep things from each other. He pushed me the other day." He exclaimed.
I sighed. Although Mitch is being annoying Scott shouldn't be talking about his best friend like this.
"Enough of this! Let's just talk about something else okay!" I said, finally jumping in.
"Gladly!" Scott huffed.
We finished lunch and all headed to our homes. I drove, listening to our new demo and trying to think of how to improve it.
"Esther! I'm home!" I called, placing my keys in the small dish near the door. It was silent.
"Esther?" I called again walking into the living room. She was asleep, along with Mitch, who was cuddled into her side. I sighed. I wanted to talk to Esther about Mitch but that is out of the question.
I sat in the love seat and started reading a book.
A half an hour later I heard Mitch 'squeak' as he stretched his arms. He opened his eyes and suddenly jumped away from Esther, causing her to wake up as well.
"Mitch! Are you okay!" She cried, helping him up from the place on the floor, where he fell. He blushed and nodded when he saw me.
"I should go..." He said walking towards the door.
"Wait!" Esther said, grabbing his wrist.
She drug him into her bedroom. The emerged a few minutes later and Mitch left. Esther's eyes were slightly red.
"You okay?" I asked her. She nodded but hugged herself.
What did Mitch tell her? Whatever he said hurt her. Goddamn it Mitch! He just had to come over and make Esther cry.
