I stood with my hands behind my back, as the lift slowly began to rise. Heart thumping in my chest, I tried to stay calm. But it wasn't easy when you were about to meet and become a part of the Avengers.

And you were late.

The doors slid open, and I stepped cautiously through.

The Avengers stood menacingly in a group, almost staring into my soul. I gulped and began walking towards them.

"Y/N! There you are, we were beginning to wonder if you were going to turn up at all." Phil, bless him, stepped up and gave me a big hug, which I gladly returned.

"Right Avengers, this is Y/N, your new recruit. Play nice, you don't want to see her in a bad mood." Bruce snorted while Natasha looked me over.

"So Y/N, why does Fury think you're so special?"

All of sudden every single eye in this room was on me, expecting an answer. But all I could do was shrug. I saw Tony roll his eyes out of the corner of my eye.

I could feel the sweat teeming down my forehead.

"Well nice to meet you Y/N, I'm Clint." The rest of the Avengers looked at Clint in surprise as he walked right up to me and stuck his hand out. I just looked at it. If only he knew. Eventually he lowered his hand down.

"Oh and one thing I forgot to mention, Y/N's not much of a talker." I turned to see Phil on his way to the elevator.

This was going to be torture.

Four months.

Four months have passed and Clint is still the only Avenger that will look at me. It's been a quiet four months, and we hadn't actually been out on any missions, so the Avengers still didn't know.

They tried to get me trained up, but I refused, knowing I could take them all down in an instant if I wanted to. I barely talked, and only ever to Clint, when no one else was around.

He'd become my best friend, and for that I was extremely grateful, as he was always there to support me when I was feeling especially down.

"Attention all Avengers, please report to main debriefing room, repeat, all Avengers, please report to main debriefing room." I sighed, and marked my place on the book I was reading, before putting it down on my bed.

When I arrived at the debriefing room, Steve had already started explaining the problem.

"L/N," said Natasha flatly, "you're late." I mumbled an apology before slumping down next to Clint. He smiled apologetically as Steve started his explaining again.

Suddenly, my phone buzzed. Normally, I would have ignored it, but it was my mum, and she never called me.

"Sorry I have to take this." Everyone let out a sigh as I pressed answer and walked from the room.

"Mum, you alright?" I said as soon as we connected.

"I'm fine dear, just, don't come home this weekend, it's not safe." I frowned. Not safe? Home was as safe as it got for me.

"What do you mean not safe? Is everything alright?"

"I don't have time to explain Y/N, please just listen. Do not, under any circumstances, come home on Saturday. You understand?" I could hear crashing in the background as tears began to form in my eyes.
