A year later
Lucy P.O.V
Lira's been keeping me on my toes.
As I watered the plants with Natsume on my back, I felt a sudden pat. "Huh? What's wrong Natsume?"
He pointed to the girl sitting on the tree. "Lammy."
I quickly ran over to the tree. "Lira! What're you doing? Get down!"
"Look mommy!" She lit a piece of paper on fire and dropped it to the floor.
"Lira!" I yelled while running to the water hose. I quickly pointed it to the fire, but it got worse.
I pulled my hair ans screeched with stress. Once I calmed down, I called the fire department.
***
As I sat in front of the interrogating table, I started to get nervous.
The cop looked at me as if I were stupid. He sighed and asked, "What kind of mother lets her daughter play with fire?"
"I'm sorry..."
"You should be. You can-" then the door slammed open. "My mommy's innocent!" Lira said walking in while holding Natsume's hand.
I face palmed myself and sighed. She's making this worse...
"Wow...you didn't even show her discipline..." He whispered to himself.
"My mommy didn't kill anyone!"
"Huh?!"
"Lira sweetie, please go-"
"NO! You can't take mommy to jail." Natsume looked around confused.
Oh Lira...
The cop walked over to her and kneeled down, "Little girl, we are having grown up talk. Please go away."
"If you take my mommy to jail, she can escape!"
I slammed my head on the table. "Lira...please go."
"She can use some glasses I'll give her to start a fire. When that happens...she can pee on it to make it stop and escape!"
The cop began to laugh. I looked up to the cop and apologized. "I'm sorry...my daughter is just really...imaginative."
"I can tell." He said while laughing some more.
"Let my mommy go!"
"I'm sorry little girl but, I'm speaking to her."
She walked up to the cop and kicked him in the spot. "Run mommy run!" She yelled.
As she continued to kick the cop, I quickly ran over to her. I grabbed her and tried to drag her away. "I'm so sorry officer."
He looked up in a red face and pointed to the door. "OUT!"
***
As I held Natsume in my arm and my other holding Lira's hand, I sighed.
"Lira...you can't do that."
"But, he was going to take you to jail!"
"No he wasn't..."
"REALLY?! Why didn't you say so?"
I let out a great sigh. "Lira...you can't do that..."
"Why not?"
"You can go to jail for assault."
"What's assault?"
"Uh...when you hit someone."
"Oh..."
After a moment of silence, Lira then began to shake. "Lira, what's-"
I looked down and saw her making fire from her hands. "Fire...magic..." I whispered to myself.
"Mommy look!"
"Wow! That's awesome." I actually wish it wasn't fire.
***A week later
"Lira! Don't-"
She set the couch on fire again....
I grabbed the fire extinguisher and put the fire out.
We can't keep this up...we need to-
"Lira, Natsume, come here."
"I said I was sorry..." Lira said nervously.
Natsume came by and grabbed her hand. "Lammy, go."
They both walked up to me. "So...what do you think about moving?"
"Huh?"
***the next day
I called a real estate agent and we went up to the country side today.
As I sat in the car, I looked at the back seat to see Lira and Natsume sleeping peacefully.
"So, what type of house are you looking for?" He asked.
"A house with lots of space."
"I see. But why do you want to move out of the big city? Don't get me wrong, but the country is a good environment to raise kids but...it's not much of a convenience. The nearest elementary school is an hour away. Don't get me started with the middle and high school."
He's right but...I need to get away from that house. We need a clean start.
"Oh...we're here." He said while parking the car.
I got out and helped the kids out. I held Natsume in my arms and Lira ran up the hill to see the house.
"Look mommy! It's so big!" she yelled while running around.
I smiled. This is what I'm looking for.
"It's a little run down but it's still good. A little touch up here and there and boom! It's an amazing house. But if you don't want it, we can keep-"
"I'll take it."
"Huh? But-"
"I want this one."
"Okay..."
A week later and we were finally in.
Lira ran around, finding anything she could play with. But Natsume stayed close by my side.
Natsume tugged on my shirt and said, "Can we go home now?"
"This is our home." I said while smiling.
He looked down and pouted.
I looked out the window and smiled.
This is the fresh start I--no--we need. One away from the memories of him. One away from the crap that happened to me. One away from all those awful memories.
I need to look forward and focus on my family. They're my whole world now, and I need to protect them the best I can.
