Chapter fourteen: A Road To Nowhere.
They're alive. My sister and her husband were very much alive.
"You never know when this could have been written, Beth." Daryl interrupted my thoughts once again, making me angry.
"Would you stop with the negativity!" I snapped as I snatched the flyer from him.
"Do you think your sister got the message?" Tara asked, looking over my shoulder at the note.
"I hope so," I smiled, "we should head to Terminus. That is where they'll be."
"But it also means that they are not together." Daryl said, looking around for any sign of life.
My heart sunk into my chest. Daryl was right, that meant Maggie could be all alone. And what about Glenn? The note said, 'we.' Did that mean Glenn had found some survivors and they were heading to Terminus together or he found the rest of the group?
"That's where we are headed then." I sighed with relief, we finally had somewhere to go.
"Beth, we don't know what that place is." Daryl said.
I turned the flyer over and smiled. "Look, it's a map."
"Those who arrive, survive." Tara read out loud with a smile. "We have to go."
Daryl nodded. "Okay, but as soon as there is a any sign of trouble, we are leaving straight away without looking back."
Tara and I nodded. "Understood." This could be the start to a new beginning.

They could be anywhere by now, trapped or alone. Walkers could have gotten them or they could be okay. I prayed that they found each other and they were safe and wrapped in each other's arms. I hoped they were away from the dead and with our group somewhere. The word others could mean they have reunited with the rest of our group.
"How far away is Terminus?" Tara asked as we continued along the train tracks that led to nowhere but an empty road.
"A few miles, maybe more." Daryl asked while clutching the map and looking at it at the same time. It all fell silent as we walked along the train tracks. "Woah, stop." Daryl whispered, putting his arm up, indicating for us to stop.
"What is it?" I asked as I looked up. He didn't answer because he knew that we were in trouble and I knew straight away. A heard of walkers, most likely the ones that walked past the shed, were stopped in the middle of the tracks. Blocking us and we couldn't go anywhere.
It was either left of right.
That would set us back, a few miles at least. This wasn't what we had planned.
"We need to move around them." Daryl instructed.
"Otherwise we will get caught in the herd." I added.
"Come on." Daryl nodded while letting Tara and I go first. He followed directly behind us, trying not to make a sound to attract them because if one walker heard a branch break then there was a chance they would all hear the branch break. The walkers luckily don't notice us, making me sigh with relief. I was sick of running from the ones who took our world.
This wasn't fair! Maggie and I should be together and I shouldn't have to live in the woods, on the run all the time. It was like I was a criminal on the run. We were the criminals who just broke out of prison and the dead were the FBI, chasing us and instead of getting caught and being brought back to prison, we died a painful death.
It was a scary world now and we just had to deal with it for the rest of our lives.
*
"We need to head up here and back to the tracks towards Terminus." Daryl said while putting the map in his pocket and taking his crossbow from his shoulder.
I studied the way he checked that everything was okay with it. "Hey, Daryl?" I asked, walking behind him.
"Yeah?"
"Why did you choose a crossbow as your weapon of choice?" I looked from his crossbow up to his Angel vest.
"It was my dads," he said, "and when the walkers started to take over, it was just there."
I smiled at his response. "You'll have to teach me one day."
"Maybe I will," he paused, "why a knife, Miss Greene?" He smiled back at me.
I chuckled, clutching my knife. "Because it makes no sound to attract the dead."
"Is that it?" He asked.
"And it's small." I said as we left the forest, around the walkers and back onto the tracks. We lost some time but it was worth not getting killed over. "So, if we ever get separated we will just meet each other at Terminus." I added, just in case.
"But, that won't happen." Tara smiled.
"Hopefully it won't." Daryl finally entered the conversation.
"It won't." I whispered with a small smile and maybe I spoke too soon.
"The herd is on the move!" Daryl yelled enough to make Tara and I sprint for our lives. Talk about how ironic that was. The walkers were trying their best to catch up with was but we seemed to be faster at this point until we got tired. Walkers never got tired because they were so hungry all the time, making it a disadvantage to us. "Into the forest!" Daryl yelled.
"No!" Tara stopped. "You go, I'll distract them."
"You can't." I grabbed her arm to stop her from leaving my side.
"It's the only way." She screamed, pulling her arm away.
"Beth, we don't have time." Daryl dragged me away deeper into the forest.
"If I make it, I'll meet you at Terminus." Tara yelled before disappearing in front of my eyes.
She'll be okay, I thought. She'll meet us at Terminus, like she said.
