Chapter two: Danger.
I wish I had a piano, it always calmed me.
These things that we called walkers could eat people without a second thought. I thought I was going to die. We all thought that but something daddy said saved me, he told me to have faith and without that, I didn't know how I would've survive.
I woke up from a nightmare, it was about Maggie. She didn't make it out alive and Glenn had no one, he was looking for her not knowing that she was dead.
I looked around and I saw no one in sight. I got up, wiping the dust off my jeans, I must have fallen asleep a little while after Daryl and I finished talking. He was a really sweet guy if you really got to know him.
"We gotta move." Daryl rushed in as I could hear the moans in the background.
"Dammit." I said sadly, this was the best place we had found since the prison. I grabbed my knife and I hurried out with Daryl as the moans drew closer.
"Hurry!" He yelled with his crossbow in front of him, shooting an arrow and killing a walker instantly.
I always wondered how we ended up together, I couldn't find Maggie and the bus left without me then I found Daryl. I was glad I did, I couldn't be in better hands. Sometimes, he had a temper but the world had gone to shit, what was there to be happy about?
We ran straight ahead until we reached the train tracks, I was out of breath but I could still hear the grumbles and the moans of walkers trailing our way. "We should go to the city," I said as I was dying for nice cold water, "we need shelter and water." I added as I finally caught my breath.
"Okay, let's move." We started running but not on the train tracks. We ran left into the forest. After all, we would cover more ground there.
Running through the bushes, ducking under tree branches and nearly tripping over rocks as we kept stumbling and running away from the danger. Away from the dead. It all turned slient as Daryl and I stopped in our tracks to catch more of our breaths.
"They're gone." I panted but he said nothing as usual. I spun around to look at our surroundings, nothing was out of the ordinary.
"We should set up camp here." Daryl said.
I nodded, not wanting to stay here. "How about the city?" I suggested. "It's not far."
He shook his head. "No."
I crossed my arms across my chest. "Why not?"
He sighed. "I've been there before and it's over run by walkers." He said, looking around to find a spot. I followed along as we traveled a few more meteres. Trees were in a small circle with a spot to sit at. "Here." He put down his crossbow and kicked his shoes in the dirt. I just stood and watched. "We need supplies."
I took out my knife again. "I'll go." I said but regretting it after.
"No, we shouldn't spilt up." He said.
I sighed with relief. "Okay, we'll both go." I smiled but just he grunted in response.
We pretty much claimed this small area and we traveled into the forest, looking for anything. Daryl spotted a rabbit hobbling along in the leaves as he smirked. "Breakfast."
I heard my stomach rummbling but I would hate to eat a bunny. I used to have one when I was nine, named Blue but that was the past and we needed food so I was not going to complain. Daryl shot it before it had time to blink, he walked over and pulled out the arrow that was shot in its eye.
He took the rabit and we walked over to our spot and we sat down while I figured out how I was going to get supplies for a fire. "I'm going to get supplies for a fire and before you say no, I'm going. I can take care of myself, I'll meet you back here when I have everything."
He shrugged as I smiled while gripping my knife. I trembled further into the woods until I was led up to a deserted road. I saw a parked car on the side and I raced over to it, picking up a few things along the way. I broke the glass off the windows and I found some string that could come in handy and I also picked up a few empty bottles that could be filled with water.
I looked inside the car itself but to find nobody left anything useful behind. This would have to do. I stepped out slowly to come face to face with another human being, I jumped at the sight of the girl who stood in front of me shaking while holding a gun in her hand.
I reached for my knife. "I wont hurt you." She said as my hands slowly took out my knife.
"Who are you?" I asked her as she placed her gun back into her back pocket.
"Tara," she whispered with a tear running down her face, "I did an awful thing."
I looked at her confused. "What did you do?" I quietly asked, hoping no walkers were nearby.
"I did something bad to good people." She said.
I shifted in my place as I gripped ahold of my supplies. "Do you want to come with me? I am with somebody else." She nodded at my offer. "Follow me." I walked back into the forest, hoping she would follow. She followed behind me as we walked a few minutes to where Daryl and I were before. "I'm Beth by the way." I smiled but she didn't say a word. "Were you with people?"
"Yeah, a group." She replied.
I saw Daryl's angel jacket turned towards us as he was bent down trying to start a fire. He heard us and quickly turned around and aimed his crossbow at us. "It's just me." I put my hands up as he lowered his crossbow and instantly turned to Tara.
"Who's this?" He grunted.
"Tara." She whispered.
"I stumbled across her when I was looking for things." I mentioned but he didn't seem to care. "I offered for her to join us."
He glared at me. "We don't know this girl." He studied her as she stood back.
"Wait a minute." He looked at her up and down.
"What?" I asked, dumping my things onto the ground.
He held up his crossbow towards her, ready to fire an arrow into her skull. "She was with the Governor." He said and I stepped back, looking at her with sorrow.
We could be in huge danger.
