Behind The Mask

“Isabel Jones!” My mom screamed after me. But I ignored her calls, I yanked on my helmet then quickly straddled my lime green Ducati.

“Isabel! Please just listen to me!” she yelled you could hear the obvious strain.

“You lost that privilege when you stopped telling me what was going to happen in my life!” I sneered coldly. I flipped down the visor and cranking the accelerator. The roaring of the small engine drowning out her pleas, releasing the brake I peeled out of the driveway.

I zipped down the street way over the legal limit. But right now I didn’t give a damn about the rules. I know on an average day I would never want to go to school but today was not the average day. I sped towards the school weaving through traffic and barely making a red light. Yes I was feeling a bit reckless.

Well I guess I should fill you in. My life was like any other until my mom started keeping secrets. At first nothing seemed wrong but, then she started getting sick all the time. I questioned it but Paul was there to be her nurse. Oh Paul is my step-dad, my real dad skipped out once he realized my mom was pregnant with me.

Then it was like a slap in the face not only was she well into the pregnancy with Paul’s kid. Yea I'm totally happy for her but here comes the kicker. Not only is she having a baby we are moving to San Fransisco this coming summer. She had known about the moving for three months before telling me. Well she didn’t tell me exactly, I did some curious snooping.

But now I'm pissed, this was my junior year of high school. Yes it is not senior year but I will go out with a bang if I have to move. Break from the pack do something crazy piss my teachers off. My snug dark wash jeans attracted the warm fall sun like solar plates.

The school appeared in the distance growing bigger as I zoomed towards it. If I was going out with a bang there were eight things on my list to do.

Number One: Kiss the man of my dreams

Number Two: Get into a fight with Darcy Collins (which won’t be hard because the man of my dreams is her boyfriend)

Number Three: Cut my hair into a short style

Number Four: Start a food fight

Number Five: Start a flash mob at the mall

Number Six: Pull off a crazy ass prank at school (maybe involving a cow)

Number Seven:

Number Eight:

Since I was still in a hate filled anger with some adrenaline on the side I might as well knock off the first on my list. Then maybe the second would just be handed to me on a silver platter.

I rolled into the school’s front lot. Cutting the engine I sat on my bike thinking. Yes I was going to do it. I was going to kiss Cameron Smith in front of the entire school. Getting off my bike I took off my helmet my leather jacket clung to me. With a sigh I headed towards my group of friends determination soaring through my body.

“Bel,” Alice mused as I walked up.

“Hey Alice, can you hold this?” I asked holding up my helmet.

“Sure, you seem a bit pissed did you figure out what secret your mom was keeping?” She asked her full attention on me.

“I will tell you but first,” I paused I scanned the front of the school. There he was Cameron Smith lounging with his friends. Yes he was a jock, but that didn’t matter. He and I had been friends for ages until Brittany Collins moved to town. And well to say the least I have a major crush on him. “I have to do something.” I smiled.

“Wow no I know that smile you’re going to do something crazy that you will probly regret.”

“This is one thing I will never regret.” Tossing Alice the helmet I slipped my bag off my shoulder. I started walking away one foot in front of the other. I took deep breaths trying to slow my racing heart rate.

I wore just jeans my leather jacket that my mom insisted on getting me when Paul suggested a motor bike instead of a car when I turned sixteen. The black leather was glued to my exposed shoulders. In my rush to leave the house I had only pulled on a white tank top. My honey blonde hair hung around my shoulders falling down my back.

With one more sigh, there was no turning back now. Cameron was surrounded by friends of his and Darcy. Darcy was not visible behind her swarm of so called ‘friends’. Cameron met my eyes his perfect smile donning his lips. His chocolate brown hair up in a messy Mohawk matched seamlessly with his jade green eyes.

“Well look who it is, Isabel Jones” He said the smile still playing on his lips. I didn’t even respond I closed the gap between him and me. I gripped the back of his head pulling his lips to mine. It was a very daring move; I heard peoples gasps of surprise. His lips were soft and sweet; the most surprising part of the whole thing was is that he kissed me back. His light facial hair tickling my chin.

His hand slid around my lower back pulling me closer. I didn’t want to pull away but I had the consequences to deal with. I pulled out of the kiss looking into his eyes. They appeared surprised and slightly dreamy.

“Cameron.” I smiled stepping away. I didn’t utter another word I just walked away. People were still in complete shock of what had just happened. Turning around I saw Alice. Her jaw on the ground eyes wide. She raced towards me gripping my arm so tight I thought it was going to break.

“You have some serious explaining to do!” Alice muttered dragging me into the school. She shoved me into the first bathroom she saw. “What the hell was that?” she asked more curious than angry.

“A kiss.” I stated.

“Obviously. But why the sudden outbreak of love?” Slowly but surely I relayed her the mornings events. She was just about as angry as I was.

“Geez that’s a lot to keep for a long time. Do you know why she did it?”

“No clue I was into too much of a haze to ask.” I replied some of the earlier anger returning.

“Well as the appointed best friend it is my duty to help you go out with a bang.” Alice managed a half hearted smile. I knew she was taking the moving thing as hard as I was but as my best friend she was being brave for me. Leaning forward we collided in a bear hug. The bell’s droning tone echoed through the halls signaling us to get to class.

“And so it begins.” I muttered mischievously. And it was only September. I grabbed my helmet and slipped my bag over my shoulder, and followed Alice out. Her short cropped brown hair edgy and very much my best friend Alice, her browns eyes giving off a slight air of a mischievous nature.

As we walked out I had a smile on my face. But as soon as we turned the corner Ben, Alice’s boyfriend and my long time friend jumped us.

“Hey chicakitas.” He smiled pulling Alice to his side kissing her lips. Rolling my eyes I kept walking.

“Whoa whoa, where are you going Jelly Belly. You young lady have some explaining to do.” Ben chuckled a sly smile on his lips. Jelly Belly was Ben's nickname for me. I can't evem remember how it started. I think it was when i was having an addiction to Jelly Beans.

“Nu uh bud,” Alice said gripping his arm dragging him towards first period. “I will tell you in first. Isabel here has some thinking to do.” She smiled knowingly. She was right I did have some serious considerations to ponder.

As I walked to class my black lace up Minnetonka boots clacked against the tile. I pulled my hair to one side.  The first day I face the eight things I want to do before high school ends. Hopefully I will be in the history books.

It would be totaly great if you guys can help me come up with 7 and 8? Suggestions rock my peeps!
