Chapter 6: Falling Farther
I looked away from James and turned back to my friends. More and more people were beginning to crowd us. But then a particular face caught my eye and to say one thing he had brown hair and beautiful jade green eyes and those eyes were looking at me.
“Like the new look?” I asked smiling feeling shy under his gaze.
“You’re damn right I do.” Cameron smiled taking me in his arms and dipping me into a kiss. My lips followed his as he held me with one arm. People cheered in the background but I was completely absorbed in the kiss. It sent little shock waves to my toes.
When we pulled apart I glanced back over to where James and that girl were sitting. They were gone just an empty space. As if they had just faded away. I felt a little twinge of irritation.
I liked it when guys looked, well I know what they are thinking but it doesn’t mean it isn’t a confidence boost. With a sigh I turned back to the guy who was looking at me.
“My lady I can I escort you to first period?” Cameron asked holding out a hand in a phony bow.
“Sure,” I replied brushing those irritating thoughts away. I took Cameron’s hand as we walked he threw an arm around my shoulders. As if declaring me his. But I was nobody’s, right? My thoughts clouded, he was the man of my dreams I reminded myself.
We pushed past the group of people that had started to disperse for first. When I turned around I saw Alice and Ben. Alice looked me in the eye, as if she saw something she didn’t like. I guess I would have to talk to her before lunch at our lockers.
I walked comfortably in Cameron’s arm. We neared Mr. Burns’s class, I was just slightly nervous about how he would act towards me today. But today I didn’t feel like messing with my teachers I had bigger plans to master mind.
When I walked into class Mr. Burns face reddened but he made no attempt to talk to me which I was gladly okay with. I slid into a seat at the back leaving my bag beside my leg. Cameron took the chair right next to me taking my right hand in his. I smiled at how warm his touch was.
The class went without a hitch you could tell people wanted to egg me on but annoying teachers was just ever so juvenile. When the bell rang I got up and headed to the door. When Cameron caught up to me reminded me that I had a tag along now. I was happy to be seen with him. It made me feel noticed and popular.
“See you during third?” he asked with a sweet innocent smile.
“Yeah see,” but he cut me off with a small kiss. He had always seemed so innocent to me maybe that is one of the reasons I was so crazy for him. He wasn’t like you typical guy. The average guy came with boat loads of baggage and ‘teenage urges’ is what my mother had phrased it once.
Cameron walked away soon consumed by the current like mass of people heading towards their next class. I soon join the crowd heading towards second. Again the morning passed by like bullet.
For once class didn’t drag on I guess because I didn’t care nor was I actively paying any attention. For once I didn’t seem to care, it was uncharacteristic of me. Things were changing faster than I could even try to keep up with let alone comprehend.
I thrummed my fingers against the desk. Its rhythmic tune the only thing my ears heard in the buzz room. I stared out the window watching the trees sway in the wind. Leaves giving way and swirling towards the ground where they would rot and decompose, it was giving the earth back what it gave you.
The loud piercing bell interrupted my thoughts. People fled the class like deer when a hunter showed up. I slowly gathered my stuff lagging behind as the teacher shuffled pages at the front.
