"And it is 17 year old Y/N L/N who is checking into the match. Her USWNT debut."
Abby ran over to you and hugged you.
"Go kill it kid." She said before you ran onto the field.
You stood on the pitch and looked around. A few months ago Lauren Holiday, Lori Chalupny, and Shannon Boxx's international careers came to an end along with the victory tour. Now in a friendly before Olympic qualifying.
The ball was back in play and you started your run. "Alex!" You yelled to her. She had the ball. She looked at you and you waved your hand to pass. She kept running and took the shot.
Saved by the keeper.
You sighed and ran back to midfield. "I had that shot." You ran passed the bench.
"ALEX PASS IT NEXT TIME!" You heard Abby yell to her.
You looked at Hope who was on the bench for that match. She nodded to you and you ran back.
Alex got subbed out and Crystal Dunn came in. You assisted Dunn for 1 of her 2 goals and scored twice yourself.
In the locker room you sat and looked at your phone.
"Nice game." Hope sat next to you.
"Thanks." You said.
"Why are you just staring at your phone for?" She laughed.
"I wanna call my mom to see if she saw the game but she probably didn't. It's late there." You looked down.
Your phone started to ring. It was your mom calling. You answered.
"Y/N! We watched it. You played so well we're so proud of you!"
You smiled. "You watched it?"
"Of course! I've never missed any of your games." She said. "I'll never miss any of your games."
"Never?"
"Never."
*Few months later*
No One's POV:
"Today is Y/N L/N's first match since having her daughter. She is getting the start tonight representing the veterans of this team. Sam Mewis is also going to be on the field with her."
You stood in the tunnel and looked at the little girl who you'd walk on the field with.
"Hi cutie." You bend down to her. "What's your name?"
"Lily." She said. "I'm 7!"
"You're 7?" She nodded. "Do you play soccer?"
"Yeah. But I'm not as good as you."
"You're probably better than I am. I haven't played in while." I said to her. "Am I gonna see you on this team one day?"
"Yes." She smiled. "And I'm gonna win medals and everything!"
"Really?" She nodded again. "I can't wait to watch you." I laughed. "Ready to walk on the field?" She nodded and grabbed my hand. "Let's go new best friend."
Ally's POV:
I sat in the stands with Y/N's siblings and Rosa. Yes we named her after Y/N's mom. Y/N didn't want to but her mother was such a strong woman I wanted a piece of her to be kept alive within her granddaughter.
Kelley had Rosa on her lap as we watched the match. Y/N ran around and played great as usual.
"Rosa look at mama." I pointed.
She made little noises and Kelley laughed. "Yes girl same." She said.
The match ended and the USA beat Puerto Rico 6-0. 2 goals from Sam and 2 from Y/N.
"We're here with Y/N L/N. Y/N with a few years under your belt you're now considered a veteran on this team. What does that mean?"
"That I'm getting old." She said. Everyone in the stadium laughed. "No it just means that I have a bit more experience than some of the girls on this team but it doesn't mean that I'm any better than any of them. We all have different qualities that can help this team in many ways and I bring the experience to the team."
"Your first match since having your daughter and unfortunately losing your mom. How does it feel to be back on the pitch after such a rollercoaster of emotions?"
"It feels great. I kind of didn't want to play in this match and wait a little bit longer but my wife made me play." She laughed. "Losing my mom was tough but we were prepared for it. We knew it was gonna happen she fought a long rough battle but lost it. Uh and having my daughter on the same day was another challenge but every time I look at my daughter I see myself and my mother in her."
"And you named her after your mother as well."
"That was all my wife." She said quickly. "But I love it. I'm happy right now."
"You're 23 years old. 2 Olympic golds, 1 World Cup whats next for Y/N L/N?"
"More World Cups and more Olympic golds. Just cause I'm a mom now doesn't mean anything. I'm still one of the youngest on the team. I'm not stopping."
"She's not retiring?" Kelley asked.
"I guess not." I smiled.
"Thank you. Give it up for Y/N L/N!" She waved to the crowd and started to sign some autographs.
After the match we hung out with her old teammates and some new.
"I didn't know you were gonna continue playing."
"After my mom died I didn't want to play cause it didn't feel right. She always said she'd never miss a match and I didn't want to play cause I knew she wouldn't be there or at home watching. But she's still watching." She looked up. "She's never gonna miss a match now."
Last chapter for tonight. I have a rough day and I'm exhausted but I promise to update more tomorrow! Probably not Thursday though cause its game day!
Little fun fact Panic! at the Disco is doing a free show in my area I guess and my friend asked me to go cause she HAS to go with someone or she can't go. I was like I'll ask what day is it.
The concert is on Thursday.
