Your POV:

NWSL Championship.

It was weird, I was nervous. I'm never nervous.

"Today we play Sky Blue FC. Sold out Gillette Stadium!" Coach yelled. "We were the 2 teams no one expected to be here, but here we are. No one expects us to do good out there, but we're gonna prove them wrong."

I fixed my shin guards.

"For some of you, this is the end. Your last game. But for others this is just the beginning. Jill Ellis is out there, watching today, scouting out the next players for the USA roster." He looked at me. "Y/N knows how it feels to make the roster. She also knows how difficult it is to make the roster." I nodded. "So don't just play for the NWSL championship, play for that roster spot."

I clapped. "23 players for the roster, and theres a lot of empty spots. I want to see a lot of you on that roster with me. But I also want to win this damn championship so lets go!" I yelled. We huddled together and walked out.

Stepping on to the pitch at Gillette stadium was like a dream. I looked and saw the banners for the New England Patriots (PATRIOTS MY TEAM 8-0 BITCHES!).

All these people here for a women's soccer league. Who could've imagined this?

My heart was racing at the thought of Jill being in the crowd. I wanted to go for this World Cup, my last one, but did I have what it took?

Physically I'm drained. Mentally too.

Do I call it quits after tonight, or do I try for 1 more?

"Tonights NWSL Championship against Sky Blue FC and YOUR Boston Breakers!!!" The crowd screamed. The line ups were announced. "And tonights captain is Y/N L/N!" I waved to the fans as my mind continued to race.

Where was my career going?

What do I do next?

85th minute, tied 1-1.

"Come on Breakers!"

"Y/N!!!"

"I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN!"

I stood on the pitch and watched my teammate, the youngest one, get taken down in the box.

Penalty.

"L/N take it!" I heard coach.

"Kid." I called her over. "I've taken a lot of PKs. But when I'm gone someone else is gonna have to take them. You do it." I backed up.

"No offense Y/N but I want you to take it." She walked away. "This is your game."

I looked down at the ball. Fixing it and backing up. The ref had to tell some players to step back.

I noticed some of my old teammates in the crowd.

Carli and Hope were watching me. Lauren was smiling at her daughter who was screaming for the Breakers.

Abby, Christie and Shannon were watching carefully. Alex and Sydney behind them.

The 15ers and 19ers were there.

I heard the whistle and took the PK.
