Chapter ten

"Her- she ruptured a heart valve" Tyler said between deep breaths.

I dropped to my knees and repeatedly punched the floor.

"She is-isn't supposed to make it" I looked up at Tyler when he said these words and hesitantly walked to Sage's side.

I laced our fingers and made the word friends line up. We got those tattoos last year.
"Look Sage, friends. Best friends. Please don't go...." I whispered at tears slid down my cheeks. Her heart monitor made a continuous beep noise and doctors rushed in.

I was cast aside to watch as she was worked on. I walked into the hallway and sat against the wall. Jason moved over next to me and wrapped me in his arms. I leaned my head against his chest and tried to hold in tears.

I heard hurried voices and Sage's mom came hurrying down the hallway. She saw me and broke into tears. I stood up and made my way over to her, she wrapped her arms around me and cried, I couldn't help but cry too.

A few hours later the doctor came out with bloodied gloves over his hands and sadly shook his head. Tyler and Sage's mom broke down, I couldn't take it, I walked out.

It was drizzling outside, looking at the letters on my fingers, they were now meaningless. Fins that's what it read, in use of a better pun, she's finished...

I sat up breathing heavy and immediately started bawling. I walked into the bathroom and splashed cold water on my face. I looked down at the letters on my fingers and couldn't help but feel a pang of sorrow in my chest.

The door opened and Jason stood behind me. I slept in my room that night so I didn't have to worry about waking him up.
"You look awful" Jason said with amusement
"Gee thanks" I rolled my eyes
"What happened?"
"I had a nightmare"
"About?"
"Sage, dying"

Jason's eyes widened. I nodded slowly and dryed my face on a towel.

~when people actually woke up~
Now everyone was awake so I made pancakes. Not just any pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes.

When everyone sat down at the table the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it" I said in a sing-songy voice.
When I opened the door I was greeted with Tyler and Sage. I lunged at Sage and hugged her.
"Goodness, what's this about?" Sage laughed.
"I'll tell you later" I whispered inviting them in.

Meanwhile in my room
Sage sat on my bed and I sat in my walrus chair. I explained the whole dream, she looked down at the letters on her fingers.

When I finished telling her, she gave me a hug. She had a dream, it was happier though.

"Well, Tyler and I got married and had a kid, he was blind in one eye and the eye was milky white...I guess that's better than me dying" Sage said shrugging.

Ok this one is WAY short but I have big plans for the next chapter.
