-Alyssa Moore-
Game day. The most horrible day since the first date.
"Alyssa, I'm so sorry that you can't cheer. But, what are we going to do without you?" Terra questioned.
"I made a promise the other day. But, I'm going to break that promise. I know you need me, so I can help. Give me just a few minutes." I whispered and looked around, making sure Hayes wasn't around. I knew he most likely wouldn't be, because I figured he would be in the locker room.
"What are you doing?" Terra asked.
"I'll be right back." I replied and went back inside the school. I walked to the girls locker room and changed into my cheer uniform.
"Sorry, Hayes. The show must go on." I whispered, even though Hayes couldn't hear me, then I took off the ankle boot and changed into sneakers.
I grabbed my pompoms and very carefully walked back outside. Actually, it was more like limping than walking, but hey.. Gotta do whatcha gotta do.
"Alyssa, are you sure about this?" Terra asked and I nodded my head.
"I'll be fine." I said and put a very convincing smile on my face, even though it was a fake smile.
"Let's do this." I said and sat down as we waited for the game to start.
When the guys came out, Hayes looked toward the sidelines, where the cheer squad was, and widened his eyes when he saw me.
"You promised, Lys." Hayes called out and I shrugged.
"Gotta do what I gotta do." I replied and he sighed.
"Be careful, please. I don't want you even more hurt than you already are." Hayes said and I nodded.
"I will. Now go out there and kick the other team's butts." I said and blew him a kiss.
"First of all; he has a nickname for you now? Second; you just blew him a kiss. Um, are you two dating now or something?" Terra asked and I shook my head.
"Not exactly. Maybe soon, I hope." I said and she smiled at me.
"Aw! Cute. Anyway, are you sure you can do this?" Terra asked and I nodded.
"I'm sure."
-Hayes Grier-
I didn't want Alyssa to go against what the doctor said, but I couldn't stop her from doing it. Throughout the game, I couldn't help but worry about her. I couldn't stay focused.. I kept looking her way.
"Hayes! Focus, dude!" Travis yelled to me as he ran past me.
I looked toward where Alyssa was again, and saw that she was on the ground. The other girls helped her up, and two of them started helping her get inside.
"Hayes, just throw the ball!" Travis called out.
I dropped the ball and ran to Alyssa.
"Hayes! What the heck? You can't just run off in the middle of the game!" My coach yelled to me.
"Put Cameron in to replace me for now. I have something more important right now." I said to the coach and set my helmet on one of the bleachers before catching up to Alyssa.
"Hey, what happened?" I asked the girls as I got inside and sat beside Alyssa.
"She didn't have the protective boot thing on, so she kind of just fell. I think her foot is too weak without it." Terra said.
"Of course it's too weak without it. She broke her ankle. They only gave her the boot for until they can do the surgery." I explained.
"Surgery?" Terra asked.
"Surprise? Heheh.." Alyssa said nervously to her.
"How come you didn't tell me you were going to have surgery? When will the surgery be..?" Terra said.
"I'm having surgery next week. And I didn't tell you because I didn't want you to worry." Alyssa said.
"It's too late. I'm worrying now. I'll come visit you as often as possible, okay?" Terra said and Alyssa nodded.
"Thanks." She said.
"Are you okay?" I asked Alyssa, worrying about her.
"Hayes, go back out there. Your team is depending on you." Alyssa said and placed her hand on my cheek for a moment.
"You're more important to me." I said and she shook her head.
"Did they stop the game because of you? I know you're the most important player on the team." Alyssa said and I laughed a bit.
"Coach put Cameron in to play for me. Are you okay?" I said and she sighed.
"I guess I am." She said and I kissed her cheek.
"I told you that you shouldn't have done that." I said and she sighed.
"You're probably mad that I broke my promise to you.." Alyssa said and looked down.
"I'm not mad, I'm just upset that you tried to do something you shouldn't have, and now you're probably hurt worse."
"I'll be fine, Hayes. Go out and play." She said as Terra got some ice and placed it carefully on her foot.
"No, I'm staying here with you. Besides, this gives Cameron a chance to play. He hasn't played since I joined the team. He's probably having the time of his life right now." I said and grabbed her hand.
"Fine. Thanks for coming to check on me." She said and I smiled.
"It's no problem, really," I said. "You two can go back out and cheer. I can keep her company, and make sure she's okay." I said to Terra and Leslie.
"Have fun, girls." Alyssa said to them before they left.
"Do you need to sit here and ice your foot a little longer, or do you want me to take you home?" I asked and she shrugged her shoulders.
"Let's just stay and ice my foot a little longer."
