-Alyssa Moore-
"Alright, Alyssa. It's okay, it's just a date. You've been on a date before, right?" My mom said as I quickly straightened my hair.
"Yeah, but the date was horrible. I'm just scared that this date will turn out like that one." I said and pinned one strand of my hair back and put on some shoes.
"You'll be fine, dear. I promise. Just tell me all about it when you get home. Have fun, sweetie." Mom said and walked out of my room.
"Oh gosh. Why am I so nervous? It's just a date, what could possibly go wrong? It's not like my date is going to bail on me like last time. It's not like he's going to come for the first few minutes and then leave. Oh who am I kidding? It's probably going to happen exactly like that." I said and started pacing back and forth.
"You'll be fine, Alyssa. Just. Do. It." Mom yelled from the other end of the house. I took in a deep breath and grabbed the car keys before walking to moms bedroom.
"I'm sorry I'm bailing on you tonight. I know we were going to watch that movie that we've been waiting for, and-"
"Don't worry about it. When was the last time you spent a day with someone other than me? School doesn't count." Mom said and I stopped to think.
"Uhh.." I said and mom smiled.
"Go. Have fun. We can find that movie some other time, okay? Now go, go, go. Don't want to be late." Mom said and I nodded my head before going out to the car.
I looked at the directions that Terra sent me, and eventually I got to the pizza place. When I went inside, I looked around a bit, and soon spotted Hayes.
"Hey." Hayes said when I approached him.
"Hey." I said as he pulled the seat out for me to sit.
"I uh.. So, have you ever been here?" Hayes asked and I shook my head a bit.
"I've pretty much only been to my house, and the school. And now here, I guess." I said and he raised an eyebrow.
"Oh, so you're new to North Carolina?" He said and I nodded.
"I am." I said with a slight smile.
Soon after, the waiter came and took our order, and Hayes and I talked and ate, and talked some more. The date was definitely not a total disaster.. For the first five minutes of it.
"Yoooo! Bro! I didn't know you were coming here tonight!" Some dude practically yelled to Hayes and came and sat with us, without asking if he could.
"Uh, actually, Matt, I-"
"Dude, I'll be back. I'm going to go get Shawn and Mahogany. And maybe even Cameron." The guy, who was obviously named Matt, said.
"Oh, uh. Okay. By the way, I'm Alyssa." I said to him and he nodded his head.
"Yeah, uh-huh. Nice to meet you, Liz. I'll be back." He said and I glared at him.
"It's Alyssa, actually." I corrected, and he kind of just ignored me as he ran toward the back of the restaurant.
"YO, guys! HAYES IS HERE!" Matt yelled and I sighed as I leaned my head on the table, forgetting that my plate of pizza was right there. I had eaten most of my pizza, but didn't have much of an appetite, so there was still pizza on my plate.
"Okay, so, this isn't too bad of a disaster.. Is it?" Hayes said and I lifted my head off the table.
"Oh, uh, you have a little.." Hayes said and pointed to my face.
"Oh. That's just great. I'll be right back." I said to Hayes and went to the bathroom. I grabbed a few paper towels and wet them, and wiped away the pizza sauce from my face. Then, I texted my mom to let her know that I was most likely coming home a bit earlier than planned.
"I am so sorry about this, Hayes. I just don't think this is going too well." I said to Hayes as I came back to the suddenly crowded table.
"What?" Hayes asked.
"I'm going home. See you tomorrow?" I said, just a little bit louder this time, because the other people around us were speaking so loud.
"Sure. See you at school, I guess. Uh, sorry about this. I really didn't mean for this to happen." Hayes said and I faked a smile and waved before going outside to my car.
-later, discussing with mom-
"It was a TOTAL disaster! First his friend came, then he said he's bringing more people, so, me being the dummy that I am, I laid my head on the table, but got pizza all over my face. So, I went to the bathroom to wash my face, but when I came back, there were so many people filling the table and the surrounding tables. It felt more like a weird family reunion than a date." I admitted and mom widened her eyes.
"Wow. Just.. Wow." Mom said and I sighed.
"Maybe just dating isn't my thing. I'll just adopt a few fishes, maybe a rabbit, and I'll live happily ever after with pets." I said and smiled at the thought of having a pet rabbit.
"That's not true. So, you had a bad first date with this Hayes guy, no big deal. There is always the chance of a second date." Mom said and I scoffed.
"Yeah right."
