I never realised just how hard ignoring pain could be. Luckily for me I got to taste it myself as our party rushed forward, following the tracks that the vehicle of wild wolves left. I was on edge, constantly feeling as if someone was watching me.

I saw Blake freeze and slow down to a stop at the head of the group. I was forced to stay behind and slow down due to my injuries. The others stopped too, and I growled in annoyance as I quickly invaded Blake’s mind, looking for a reason for our sudden stop.

What’s going on? I demanded angrily, resisting the urge to snap at one of the wolves that bumped into me.

The tracks, they end here. The vehicle is nowhere to be found though, so they must have hidden it somewhere. I howled in anger, this time snapping at a wolf that got too close to me. I was turning into a one big nerve ready to snap at any moment.

Let’s find them then, damn it! They could be... they could be... I howled again, feelings utterly useless. I always counted on the fact we could find them so I could kill them. And now that it was put into question I was quickly loosing it.

Calm down damn it! We’re all on the edge, but not all of us are behaving like children! Blake snapped, and I growled at him, ready to attack him if he pushed me too far. I knew he was right, but I couldn’t help myself. Blake snarled and crouched into a jump as well.

Both of you shut the fuck up! We snapped out of it when Reece shouted through our minds, his voice laced with Alpha command making every wolf in our party wince. I want to find Maddie as badly as you want to find Belle, but that doesn’t mean we should be fighting amongst each other. So get your heads out of the clouds and focus.

If you can focus, maybe you don’t love her enough. I remarked, turning my growl on him as Blake joined me. Reece looked taken aback for a second before snarling at both of us, snapping and growling into the air.

I don’t know if we could have organised ourselves, or would there have been a fight if things turned out differently. What possibly saved the day was a loud, begging howl that broke through the night sky, quickly followed by another.

All of us stilled, easily recognising the sound. Belle and Maddie. Not one of us wasted any time as we rushed forward in the direction the sound came from. I ignored the warning growl coming from the other two Alphas for me to slow down in my haste to find her.

I finally caught the scent of the wild wolves again as we got closer to the place Belle and Maddie were at. I released a howl to greet theirs, and we were quickly answered by a round of hopeful howls as they rushed to meet us.

After what seemed like an eternity I finally saw her through the trees. She stilled when she saw us, suddenly hesitating to approach us. Maddie didn’t seem to have the same problem as she jumped on Reece, tears streaming down her face as she whined and brushed on him.
