Chapter 12

Ashton

I watched her as she joked with Maddie. It amazed me how easily she could switch between the different sides of her. Still, that didn’t erase the circles around her eyes, or the pallor of her skin. It hurt knowing that I was part, if not the whole, reason she was in that condition.

Blake cleared his throat, successfully ending the chatter of the girls. Belle looked at him, almost as if she had expected him to vanish in the mean time as she put Annabelle in place. “I do believe we’re still on a date.” He said with one of his charming smiles that seemed to spike my temper.

I didn’t usually lose it that easily. As a matter of fact before the whole thing I was a rather calm and collected person. I guess I changed in more than one way, or my wolf merely felt endangered by the presence of other Alphas and struggled to maintain his position. I didn’t want to turn into one of those disgusting, possessive males. But I couldn’t hold myself back.

“You have got to be kidding me.” I hissed, glaring at Blake as he bared my glares with what was, I hated to admit, nothing short of dignity. I knew what vibe I was giving to the others, so I gave my best to suppress it.

“Is there a problem Ash?” He asked, his tone completely polite. It was a bigger blow to my ego than him shouting at me in front of everyone. I hated the guy for keeping his calm in the whole havoc. Maybe I was like that only because it was Belle in question? She was always a sensitive subject for me. I hated it when anyone else treated her wrong. And now that it was me hurting her I was slowly falling apart form the torment

I sighed and closed my eyes, trying to calm myself down. So far I’ve only kept my emotions bottled up, and the plug keeping them closed off was dangerously cracking. I figured I should just remove it myself. “I have to talk to her.” I said, allowing all of my feelings to flood me.

The moment I saw her eyes widen I knew it was all clearly visible on my face. The confusion, pain, frustration, hopelessness, and so many different levels and kinds of desire.  From the simple need to be around her and make her happy to the fiery kisses that would make her blush like crazy. And knowing her, she would.

She looked away, unable to stand my gaze. I didn’t know what I expected. Maybe for her to at least answer me. Or perhaps a part of me hoped she would leave Blake’s side and happily join me. But she did neither, merely staring into empty space.

“I don’t think she wants to talk to you.” Blake whispered, offering her his hand. My whole being seemed to zero in on that moment. With a hesitant glance in my direction, she took it. I don’t know why, but my heart throbbed painfully and made a flip, leaving me with a sensation of falling into an abyss.
