Chapter 6

Ashton

My mind was focused on everything but the conversation we were having. The voices of others seemed to endlessly annoy me. Don’t get me wrong, three of them I considered as something along the line of friends, but I wasn’t up for the Alpha meeting.

“What do you think, are they gonna be any good?” Cole wondered aloud, a huge grin that was always plastered across his face tended to annoy me. He wasn’t exactly a bad person, but he could use being brought down a notch or two.

“Duh, why else are we here for?” Cameron tossed a comment, and I could feel my temper spike up. “Besides, I already have one in mind, isn’t that so, Ash?” He asked with a smug, self-satisfied grin. “Though I wouldn’t take her as my mate, more like I would love to have her in my bed.”

I shot up, growling, my claws extended and I was ready to jump on that jerk. My nerves were on the edge as it was. “They are not here for you to treat them like sluts! And if you even think of hurting her...” I trailed off, venom dripping from my words. “I will personally prepare a dish for the wild dogs from your remains.”

“My, my, touchy subject no? You don’t actually care about that ugly duckling, do you?” He smirked, and my rage reached the white hot point.

I lunged forward, but Blake quickly pushed me back and against the wall, keeping his hand on my neck. I growled at him, but didn’t attack; I still knew who the enemy was.

“This isn’t like you Ash! Damn it what has gotten into you?” He hissed, whispering to me.

I sighed, closing my eyes and leaned my head against the wall. “I... I just... you know Belle! I can’t listen to it when he talks about her like that!” I growled.

He arched his brow. “You attacked me too when I tried to kiss her. Do you love her or something?”

His question caught me off guard. It was absurd of course, but I really didn’t know how to explain everything that had happened to me in the past couple of days. Yesterday, when she didn’t come home, I felt as if somebody told me Christmas was cancelled until further information.

“It’s... it’s not it. She’s like a sister to me! Wouldn’t you protect your sister? And what you did was wrong, she was hurt, you’re not supposed to use her like that!” I hissed and narrowed my eyes.

He sighed and rolled his eyes at me. “Damn it, I’m your best friend, you should trust me. Besides, I wasn’t using her. I just really wanted to kiss her. She has a... compelling effect.” I growled and he chuckled.

“Just stay away from her, she never wanted this.” I said, pushing his hand away. Seeing that I calmed down he allowed me to get past him. I gave my best to ignore the grin on Cam’s face, but it still annoyed the hell out of me.

Reece wasn’t in the least fazed by what happened though, he never really took a side, unlike the rest of us. We kind of split into two groups, Blake and me, and Cameron with Cole. Reece was the peacekeeper between the two factions.

“Well, shouldn’t we get back to the point. I have the schedule, we should go through it together.” Reece said in that calm tone of his.

“I really couldn’t care less about the dinner schedule, I just want the couple of girls I set my sights on.” Cameron yawned and grinned at me. I gritted my teeth, focusing my attention on Reece.
