Angel Lies

Part 12: An Invitation

"Veronica?! Wake up!" Lily shook Veronica violently. She didn't know what had happened, just that her friend has a deep bleeding gash on her neck, a puddle of puke next to her, and she was out cold. The clerk stood near to see if an ambulance would need called. Veronica opened her eyes and blinked a few times before she started to freak out. She didn't see Lily and a man, she saw a beautiful geisha dressed in a grey kimono with soulless eyes, black angelic wings. The man was a black creature with white holes for eyes. She backed away from them as she screamed.
"Veronica!" Lily smacked her across the face.
She rubbed her cheek and looked at them again to see her vision suddenly distorted and it now was back to normal and seeing regular people.
"Are you okay?" Lily asked.
Veronica nodded but winced as the gash throbbed and was very painful.
"We need to get you to the E.R. That looks horrible, what happened?"
"I don't exactly remember, it's all fuzzy.." She held her head as it ached.
"I got the masks, let's go." Lily helped her up as they both headed toward the entrance.

Veronica ended up getting stitches and wearing a huge bandage to protect the stitches. She was curled up in her bed, afraid to venture out of room after what she saw and from being attacked. She was starting to wish she would have died that day because she felt like she was living in a nightmare that she couldn't wake up from. She stared at the door, scared something would burst through and kill her at any second. Everyone was asleep in the house except her but she was starting to drift to sleep only to be startled by a knock at the window. Rubbing her eyes and trembling, she slowly got out of bed to see it was only Axel at the window. But she didn't exactly want to be around him after feeling all the wrong feelings when he kissed her.
"Veronica! Hey I haven't heard from you!" He yelled.
"Please go before you wake everyone up and I'm blamed for it.." She said grimly.
"What's wrong? Did I do something?"
"I don't want to be around anyone..."
"Was it the kiss? I'm sorry."
"No.. It wasn't that.."
"Then what?"
"I just want to be alone! Strange things keep happening and the person who killed my family is after me.." Tears ran down her face.
Axel opened up the window and quickly came inside and gently lead her to her bed to sit and sting next to her.
"What happened?"
"I keep seeing these creatures.. I saw Lily as a completely different creature and hooded figure who almost killed me twice now..." She rubbed her bandage as it throbbed.
"Geez.. That looks bad."
"I just want to be alone..I can't trust anyone.."
"I just came by to check on you and to see if you wanted to be my date for the masquerade party."
"I have to go even though I don't want to..Lily bought my dress and mask.."
"It will be fun and I'll keep you safe."
"I guess but I'm not staying long.."
"Fine by me, I'll bring you home."
She nodded as she pulled up her messy blonde hair. Axel stood up and headed for the window.
"I'll pick you up tomorrow night at seven. Now get some rest, you look like you need it." He smiled as he climbed out the window.
She smiled some thinking it was nice of him to check on her. She went back to her bed and laid down, falling into a deep sleep.
