It was late into the night when Veronica looked at the clock while yawning. Axel was still wide awake as he stared at her with his grey eyes, moving his hair out of his line of vision.

"After confirming I needed serious help, they took me to an Asylum to evaluate how serious it was. They put me through tests, poked me with lots of needles, it was a nightmare, specially when you only six years of age. Confirming I indeed was scarred mentally and was a tad bit insane, I was checked in and locked up into a padded room after taking any possession I had with me and stripping me of my nightgown, putting me into a hospital gown. Everyday was torture, poking me with needles, monitoring me while I slept and if I had one of the nightmares that had me waking up in violent fits, they stuck me with a needle that would leave me sedated in my bed for hours. I was one of their younger patients so I was allowed to have a couple of stuffed toys after being expected to be sure there were no sharp objects. It didn't matter, I was so lonely and drained of life. Day after day, I would sit on my bed and rock back and forth, hugging my knees to my chest. I couldn't erase the image of my dead sister out of my head, so I would try banging my head against the walls. It did no good since the walls were padded. As years passed, the nightmares ceased and since I didn't need sedated for the nightmares I could function properly. I grew taller and my blonde hair had reached my knees from not being trimmed in so long. I found entertainment in playing with stuffed toys even if it was childish. When I thought hope was lost, I was told a family member was wanting custody of me. Aunt Ann, the twin sister of my late mother wanted to take me home with her. When asking her why she didn't want me sooner, she stated that she thought no one survived that dreadful night. When reviewing my paperwork and medical records, I was cleared and put in Aunt Ann's and her families' care. And here I am, started school today." Veronica finished.

"Wow, that was one heck of a story." Axel complemented her as he sat up.

"It's not just a story, it really did happen..." she looked down, reliving her nightmare took a toll on her.

                "Are you ok?"

                "Yeah, just really tired."

"Oh ok, well if that's the case then I'll let you get some sleep." he said as he stood up, smoothing out his clothing.

"See you at school tomorrow." Veronica said as she went over to the window and opened it for him.

"Can't wait." he smiled at her before kissing her cheek.

She blushed as she watched him disappear out the window. Closing the window she smiled to herself and turned out the light. Maybe the school year wouldn't be so bad after all she thought to herself and laid down in her bed.
