Riley's POV
"Then the subway train finally started to move and fell on my butt." I said, laughing. Lucas and I have been talking for 4 hours straight and I've loved every second of it. We were laying on my bed, staring at the ceiling, listening to each other's voices. There was nothing else I would rather be doing.
"Wow, the one time you let go of the poll and the subway finally moves." Lucas said, laughing along with me. "I really wish I was there."
"Why? So you could laugh at me along with the strangers on the subway?" I asked.
"No, of course not. I would either catch you before you fell or just simply fall on the ground with you."
I laughed and said " That's sweet, Lucas."
We stayed silent for a few seconds. Lucas decided to break the silence by sitting up. "Wow.." I hear him say.
"What?" I said as a sat up too. I saw that he was looking at the sunset from my bay window. The sky was full of pink, purple, and blue. "Wow." I said, repeating him. "It looks like a lilac sky."
"It probably is." Lucas replied. "You're so lucky to have a window where you can watch the sunset, Riley. Hey, do you think we can sit on the fire escape to watch the sky?"
"Uh, Lucas, I don't think the sky is going anywhere."
"You know what I mean, Riley."
"Yeah, I was just playing." I said with a smile, as I grabbed the camera that my Uncle Shawn gave me then opened one of the windows and crawled out.
"I forgot that Shawn gave that to you." Lucas said as he followed me outside.
Lucas' POV
"It's beautiful." Riley said, as her eyes were fixed on the lilac sky. She stopped staring to turn on the camera and take some pictures.
"Not as beautiful as you. Notice how I didn't say that under my breath."
She turned her head towards me with her big, goofy smile that I loved so much.
"Never stop smiling that big, goofy smile of yours, princess."
That made her smile even bigger. I put my arm around her and I could feel her get tense but she eventually relaxed.
"Now I go like this." Riley said and laid her head on my chest. We both watched the sky, making sure it wasn't going to go anywhere.
I didn't want to break the precious silence between us but I couldn't help but ask "Do you believe?"
"In certain things, yes."
"Do you believe that you're beautiful?"
She hesitated and said "Sometimes, but not all the time."
"Well, I'm going to keep reminding you that you're beautiful until you always believe that you are. Don't listen to Missy because she has no idea what she's talking about, okay?"
Riley lifted her head off of my chest to look at me. "Is it okay if you remind me no matter what?"
"Whatever you want prin-"
"Wait." Riley said suddenly. She stuck her head in the window that leads to her room.
"What is it?"
"Shit." Riley said as she quickly entered her room.
"Whoa, Riley. Language."
"Sorry. Just, um," she said as she put down her camera picked up our backpacks. "Take out some of your books and pretend we've been working on homework this whole time." she said as she threw my backpack at me.
