Welcoming

I got to Bucks and he gave me the job on the spot, said Rosie was a good friend of his and he was happy to help anyone who was on good terms with her.

I sighed and smiled a little, of course Rosie would be friends with a tough greaser like Buck, it seemed that was who she hung out with.

Soda hung around me before challenging me to a horse race, which, I naturally accepted.

Yeah, he beat me.
He told me he had ridden a horse practically since he could walk.

"So you got your own horse?" I ask him.

"Well it ain't exactly mine, it's the guys I work for but it's practically mine." He explains.

"What's his name?"

"Mickey Mouse." He says smiling.

I smile a little and ask him if he knows a place I could stay at.

"Yeah I can ask my parents if you can stay with us, I doubt they will care." He said walking to an older white house in scenic nowhere.

"Nice place." I say stepping inside the small but warm house.

"Hey Soda, who's this?" A women, I assume his mother, said kissing him on the cheek.

Soda stubbornly wiped it off with a grimace, earning a warm laugh from his mother.

"This is Dally." Soda says gesturing to me.

"So where are you from, Dally?" His mom said looking at me without the usual disgust people usually had when they looked at me.

"New York, Ma'am." I say, looking down.

"So polite, although you don't need to be so nervous." She says putting her hand on my shoulder.

"I-I'm sorry." I say, looking down even more, two minuets here and I've already screwed up.

"Don't worry about it, okay? Just make yourself at home." She says smiling warmly at me.

I look over at Soda and he smiles and calls both his brothers downstairs.

"This is Pony boy." He says, gesturing to the shorter boy.

"And this is Darry." He says, gesturing to taller boy.

"Guys this is Dally." He says to the both of them.

They both shook my hand and said hi.

What was with this place and being so welcoming?
