❤Chapter 3: A Uneasy Beginning❤
Class went by really quick and before I knew it, it was recess. Adam, Conner, Dakota, Ebony, Mellisa and I all walked out together as a group. They all agreed that I could sit with them at recess so I went along with it. They walked in pairs, Alex and Conner, Dakota and Ebony so that left me and Mellisa together.
"So it's Averine right?" She says to me as we walked down the corridors.
"Y-yeah but please call me Ave." I say quietly and clutched the books close to my chest.
"Oh okay. I'll give you some brief details about this school." She says and smiled at me.
"Well, Dakota is the popularist girl in our year. Followed by me and Ebony, I guess you could call us her 'friends'." Mellisa said, emphasising slightly.
This made me look up at her and frown a little.
"What do you mean by that?" I ask slowly.
"She has this way of luring people being her friends and then blackmails them." Mellisa says an shakes her head.
"Wow.... I don't think she's that nice..." I say quietly and looked at Dakota.
I watched as she was talking to Ebony and then my eyes drifted over to Adam. He's stopped walking to wait for me.
"Be careful..." Mellisa says before walking off and to Dakota.
I was a little confused and then Adam started to walk with me
"Hey there. Fitting in well?" He asks and smiled at me.
"Y-yeah. It's going on well." I say quietly and felt a blush linger on my cheek.
I looked up and noticed we were near a tree with a picnic bench.
"This," He says and gestures to the table before sitting down. "Is where we hang out." He says and smiles as I sat next to him.
I smiled back at him an watched them all sit down. Conner on the other side of Adam, Dakota on the other side (middle seat) and Ebony and Mellisa on either side.
I watched them get out some food and started talking and eating. I got out a chocolate bar and unwrapped it slowly, trying to fit into the conversation.
You know that feeling when someone is watching you? I looked up and searched every pair of eyes around us when I noticed it was Dakota staring at me.
Her mouth was set in a straight line and her eyes were narrowed. She made a scowling look and then whispered something to Ebony.
"So Ave." I lift my head at the sound of my name but soon realising it was Dakota. "So why'd you move here?" She asked me with a sly grin.
"Umm. I moved here because of my dads business." I say and shrugged before taking a bite out of my chocolate bar.
"Oh really?" I looked up at her and the sly grin stayed on her face. "What does your father do?" She asks in a sultry voice.
I was taken by surprise of the question. Even though I knew it was coming, I want prepared to answer. If I told them my father was a multimillionaire, would rumours start? Will I get friends only because of the money? I didn't want that.
What do I say?
