Chapter 12

I woke up to me taking up most of Normani's bed and her sleeping in her bean bag chair on the floor. I wanted to go to the hospital again before Lauren slipped back into her "expected coma", whatever that is.

After I showered and stole some of Mani's clothes, I took her keys and hopped in her car.

The ride to the hospital this time was full of a different type of emotion. I couldn't remember any specifics about the last car ride, but I know this time I was just waiting for this to be over. Hopefully Lauren was awake and I could talk to her.

This time when I got to the hospital, I walked straight to Lauren's room. I remembered where it was, which to me was a surprise because I forget stuff a lot.

I walked in to see Ally laying under Lauren in her hospital bed, with Lauren's mom sitting in a chair beside them. I felt my heart sink in my chest.

"Hey guys," I greeted with a smile despite how I was actually feeling.

They turned to my voice and all smiled, Ally and Lauren both waving.

"Hey Dinah, I know you just got here, but would you mind walking with me to the third floor vending machines? These two are comfortable." Ms. Clara said.

Too comfortable actually, "Sure." I offered.

She got up and placed the book she was reading down in the chair where she sat.

"Be right back you two."

We left out of the same door that I had just entered and began to walk down the hall way.

"So, Lauren is starting to remember you." Ms. Clara said.

"She is?" I said in a very low mellow tone.

"She is." She responded.

"Does that mean she's getting some of her old memory back?" I asked.

"If by old memory you mean that her and Ally aren't together, then yes." She smiled.

I looked at her and then stopped because we'd reached the elevator.

"Yeah, well. I bet she was confused and embarrassed." I said as the door in front of us slid open.

"But what about you?" she asked, stopping me just as I was about to walk in.

"Look," she continued, stepping in the elevator as I followed. "Lauren was supposed to go back into a coma. Instead, she slept for 10 hours and woke up. So we had to tell her about everything that happened after her coma that actually happened."

"10 hours?" I said, not thinking that I had been gone that long.

"Well, more like 8, but that still was a long time. We all told her about the Ally thing and we were laughing, but she just got really serious. Then it just got worse when we said that you and Normani were here." She finished.

"Why though?"

"I don't know, I was hoping that you'd tell me."

I looked at Lauren's mom, and I didn't exactly know what to tell her or how to explain how me and Lauren were right now. I didn't even know how we were. I hadn't exactly had the chance to talk to her yet about what happened.

"Sweetie, your phones ringing." I heard Ms. Clara say, and I reached into my purse and looked at the screen to see Ally's name appear on it.

"Hello?" I said into the phone.

"Hey! DJ, I'm leaving and Lauren wants you to come back up here after you're done."

It was Ally's voice.
