Chapter 11

It was quite a walk still towards the hospital. David looked around him as much as he could as he described what Vanessa was missing. She was still being lifted by Peter Gibbiwibbs who preferred to get there quickly, rather than awaiting Vanessa's slow pace. Now she was blind things would only go downhill for her if she was in the town David and she grew up in.

Blind people were quite useless in the community. David never really figured out why before because his teachers and parents had no clue why either. But now he came to think of it it was probably because the GPS would still guide them through the rubble and things that they cannot see, while the blind people never realize why that's the case. The GPS was still invisible to them. So whenever David saw a blind person walking around the street, he would see them fall often and having a hard time keeping balance at all.

Morgan, Robert and Kira were walking behind Peter who seemed to have taken the lead altogether. He just seemed the type, David thought.

David took a closer look on Robert and Kira. He never saw them before, though Robert looked kind of familiar. Robert was almost as tall as Morgan, but less dark hair than Morgan had. Also he seemed to have a lot more scars in general. Would those three been in the Halloween night as well? And for that matter : have they ever joined it when they were thirteen? It would be about five or six years ago for them by their looks. Robert looked more friendly than Morgan though, who always seemed to be annoyed by something somewhere.

Kira on the other hand looked rather deadly. Her eyes were blue and cold. And as far as David knew having blue eyes with a dark skin was pretty rare altogether. She didn't seem cruel or evil or anything, but something about her spoke 'murderous rage' , if anything like that excised.

All three had weapons with them. Morgan had a sword, Robert a bow and Kira had two flails. Maybe that was why she seemed most deadliest. Though Morgan's sword came close by almost reaching the ground.

They looked like a war party, David thought. A group of three that were used to killing and murdering hundreds of people without a second thought. If they weren't freed when they were, they would've probably become quite the fanatics.

"Why did you fall silent?", Vanessa asked. It made David jump.

"Sorry I was just.. thinking", David responded.

"About?", she continued to ask.

"About that whole royalty thing that people were talking about in our town. It just doesn't make sense to me where that's based on. Are we royalty because we would become free people?"

"No that's not it at all", Peter said. "Royalty is a name that I used for the children whose parents have murdered more children or fanatics than most."

This struck David like lightning. "My parents were-"

"One of the craziest killing machine couple you could imagine. Did you know they actually met in the Halloween night? She was dressed like a bride and your father like a zombie. They fell in love while they were killing dozens and dozens of children. I remembered them from a long time ago. They quit the trick or treating evenings when the rules suddenly made them a target as well. They had one final night where your father has lost his leg and arm. That scared them enough not to get back into the game. They married and got you. So they never had to attend to the trick or treating again."

"He always told me that happened in his own trick or treat night", David mumbled.

"Yea well.. Every year I enlist a small group of "royalties"  whose parents needed to be taught an extra lesson, or get some revenge. So I put a price on their kids head for the true fanatics."
