Chapter Eight

Another few days passed where David and Vanessa attempted to do the same trick Morgan had shown them. It gave them quite a few bumps in the head and they were nowhere close to Morgan's achievement. The worst thing was that he taunted them by saying that was only the start of the things they could do in the far future. To David and Vanessa that currently seemed like an eternity.

What did surprise morgan was with how much skill and finesse David and Vanessa were able to move inbetween the crowds in the supermarkets and clothing stores. He told them he noticed their agility and reaction speed had started to show some real progress. It was one of the baby steps towards walking up walls though.

They were lauging and walking down the streets with the three of them. The weather was nice, the people were oblivious to them and even Morgan seemed to cheer up from David and Vanessa's mood. He had been rather grim in the previous meetings. He told them about the people he had lost to the madness a little more and how it would suck to lose David and Vanessa as well.

He had trained a carrier pigeon to converse with his two friends who were busy with other things in, or outside the town. On close range they were definitely quick. Sometimes in the evening he conversed with them through morse code. The flickers of the light would make letters, letters would make words, and words would make sentences. It was slower, but at least his pigeon could sleep.

"Everything still seems to be OK", Morgan had said after a full hour of light flickering on David and Vanessa's small balcony. "But my friends are a little unnerved as well. Something is coming. They can feel it in the air. I've got no clue what is going to happen. Just make sure you two can flee in a few seconds if you need to."

David and Vanessa nodded. They spent the next day looking for survival items like a handy backpack. Food that stays fresh for a long time, handy pocket knives. Just to make sure they were prepared for everything. But they were both hoping they didn't have to abandon their apartment. They had spend a lot of time on perfecting their cozy appartment.

By the end of their searching day, Morgan had to leave again. One of his friends had some trouble somewhere in the north district, and asked Morgan to come help. He had answered quickly that he would. There didn't seem to be much trouble with David and Vanessa. He told them they were doing quite fine on themselves.

"Do you really think Morgan will stay with us for the next few years?", Vanessa asked.

"I don't know. Perhaps he will free and accompany other children next Halloween. Who knows, maybe he wants us to help him then even."

"Are you good with a sword like Morgan has then?", Vanessa asked provokingly. "No! You'd be useless haha"

"Well that's true, but maybe we could become talent scouts? He found you after all", David said. It make Vanessa blush a little. "Don't say that. I was just lucky."

The bell from the front door rang. David wondered if it was Morgan again who forgot something. It wasn't his sword at least. He had forgotten that last time.

Vanessa opened the door and David picked up the fire axe again, just in case. In front of them stood a short man. They didn't recognize him at first, but when they turned on the light in the little hallway, they recognized his face.

"You!", David screamed. He knew that face from the television. He had seen it at least once a year before the last one. He was about to charge the man with his axe, but the man was holding a little white flag. It confused David a little, but he recognized the gesture.

"Can we talk?", the man asked.

Then Vanessa, who was looking strangely at David before, turned towards him.
