This poem was written by a girl in the class below me called Maia (I think that's how it's spelt. Anyway, it's said 'May-Uh). She put it on Instagram but I think it deserves to be spread further than that so here it is on wattpad (I've adapted it a bit so it flows better):

The shiny pages deceive you
They tell you what we dread
They fill you with wrong meanings
And plant false expectations in your head
They tell you that your legs
Should be straight up and down
They tell you you should buy
The 5,000 dollar gown
They tell you that you stomach should be flat and nicely toned
They tell you that you're fat unless we can see some bones
They tell you that your hair should be glossy, shiny, bright
They tell you "go no fat- take your yogurt light"
But here's to the women that are not just skin and bone
Here's to the women who aren't skinny flat or toned
And here is to the women who hold their heads up high
Who don't care about their weight, their stomach or their thighs
And here's to all the women who look and feel like queens
Let no one tell them otherwise, not even magazines.
