A Somewhat Complicated Situation

“Destroy what destroys you.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fear crept along my spine. My breath caught in my throat, and my skin prickled with goose bumps. It felt like the devil was staring straight through me. And in a way, I wasn't so far off. Tony was a fallen Angel, and I knew for a fact that he wasn't on his own. I could tell by the dozen pair of eyes that suddenly appeared on the restaurant’s window. Looked like his crew decided to tag along, what fun! I swallowed my fear in one huge gulp; I didn't want them to see any signs of my true emotions.
There wasn't any way of not facing them. We couldn't stay in here forever.
A waiter approached Hunter and I and firmly informed us that the restaurant would be closing soon. Hunter slammed his fist on the table, frustrated that we were running out of time to make a plan. The table shook as he made contact with it, his strength amounting to twenty men. He created a small, jagged crack when he pulled his hand away. A smirk played on his face as he attempted to cover up the crack with a leftover napkin.
Moments later, another waiter with a curly mustache appeared and began cleaning off our table. He removed the napkin. His eyes nearly popped out of his head when he noticed the scratch.
"Sir, do you realize how much money this table is worth? Nearly a thousand dollars! You are going to be required to pay for this...!" His mustache twitched as he spat accusations at us. Hunter's face was calm as he stood up and faced the waiter. They had an intense stare-off that only lasted a few moments before I saw a change occur in the man's eyes. They softened, and his body relaxed.
Since Hunter's back was turned, I couldn't specifically hear what he was saying, but I could still hear him mutter under his breath. He was chanting. A second later, the waiter nodded his head and walked away with a dazed expression on his face. I raised my eyebrow at Hunter and gave him a questioning look.
"Did I neglect to mention the fact that I can somewhat altar a human's mind?" he said as he gave me his most innocent smile. I smiled back and playfully shoved him aside.
He sat back down and grabbed a pen from his pocket. He was scribbling something down on a spare napkin when I looked back over to the window. Tony and his crew were still there. Watching, waiting.
I could pretend to laugh and ignore them all I wanted too, but he would still be there. A plan, we needed a plan.
Hunter finished writing and discretely tossed me the napkin. On it said:
"We need a plan. Here's what going to happen. I'm going to walk out the back door of the restaurant. You stay here. Okay so far? Don't say anything out loud, they can hear you."
I nodded and watched him write on the other side of the napkin. While he was working on that, he started an aimless conversation with me to distract the fallen angels from seeing him write. He handed me the note so fast I didn't even see it until he made a glancing down motion. I continued talking to him as I read the contents of the napkin.
"I'm not sure when they're going to attack. But when I exit the building, I want you to stay here. I'm going to try to make it back around the front to take them by surprise; because by then they will be after me. When you hear a pounding on the roof, run straight for the front door. I will quickly come and scoop you up before they get to us. Remember, I'm faster than they are. Ready?"
How he managed to write down this paragraph in under thirty seconds amazed me. Then again, everything he did amazed me, and made me want him more. I nodded again and he stood up, a wistful expression in his eyes. I grabbed his hand and held it in mine for a moment. He cupped my cheek and bent down to kiss me on the forehead. I gently placed my hands on his neck and pulled him closer to me. His lips brushed mine and it wasn't long before he meshed his mouth harder to mine.
If only we weren't so close to death.
He broke apart our embrace, leaving me gasping for air. My body craved his touch, and all I wanted to do was stay in his arms forever. But if we escaped our pending death tonight, there would be plenty of time for this, afterwards. Right now we had a plan to go through. I gazed deeply in his swarming blue eyes for a moment, before he gave me one last smile and disappeared.
And that was the last time I saw him alive.
Fifteen nerve-wracking seconds had passed before I heard a thud on the roof. I stood up and raced across the restaurant to get to the front door. If everything went as planned, he should have been here waiting to scoop me up and take me home. He wasn't here. But if he didn’t create the thud, then it must have been Tony. I nervously checked out my surroundings to make sure they weren't about to pounce, and after the coast was clear I realized I would either have to go wait back inside, or go look for him.
If I was in the restaurant, I would be safe. But if I continued to stay outside in the crisp air, then I would have a better chance of running into Tony. One thing was for sure, I couldn't just stand here. Although the dash across “Shine " wasn't a long one, sweat still found its way on my forehead and neck. For once I feared that I wouldn't have Hunter here to protect me from danger this time. I felt like crying, no, I felt like hiding. But what good would that do?
I wrapped my hair into a quick ponytail and took my heels off, leaving them by the curb. My bare feet hit the cold concrete as I began to sprint down the street in the middle of the night. Nobody was outside because every lot was vacant. After searching through every public assessable place possible, I gave up and faced the fact that I would have to go into the darkness of the alleyways. I approached the side of "Shine" and desperately looked for any traces of Hunter's appearance.
Even just the slightest hint of him being here would've helped. Anything at all. But nothing was there beside an empty crate and a shopping cart. I searched the rest of the alley's nearby and felt a cold chill run straight down my arms as I spotted a ladder about ten feet away from where I was standing. I guess my only other option was to climb it to the roof of the restaurant.
I tenderly placed a hand on the steel step. Reaching my other hand higher, I was able to insert my left foot on the first rung. And so I slowly continued my treacherous climb. When I was close to the top, it suddenly came to my mind that this could be a trap. They could all be waiting for me. In fact, I knew this was going to happen, but what other choice do I have? Turn back around and go home? Hunter should've found me by now, and quite frankly his absence scared the living shit out of me. I had to find him first.
I paused a moment to catch my breath, If I was going to die, then at least I would have died trying. I wondered if my death was going to be quick or slow. Considering my first escape from their evil clutches, I doubted that they would let me go easily.
Fuck it.
I reached upwards and grabbed a hold of the top of the building. Using my legs, I thrust my upper body upwards and harshly landed on the unruly terrain of the roof.
Quickly sitting up, I realized that my fears were, indeed, correct. I wasn't alone. In fact, they surrounded me with slick grins on their faces, eyes glowing with hate.
As much as I feared for my own life, that particular worry evaporated whenever I spotted Hunter's lifeless body lying helplessly on the ground.
