The boys walked me to school every day, year round. I didn't ask, in the morning there they would be, sitting on my porch steps patiently. I'd even try sneaking out the back sometimes.

They would find me before I got to school.

But today was not a normal walk to school sort of day.

"You could get kidnapped walking alone." Zayn argued, pushing up the hood of my sweatshirt in an attempt to keep my warm, as I told them I was fine by myself.

I shoved it off my head, "I seriously doubt that. You guys are paranoid."

Louis stopped and grabbed my hand, and after lacing his long fingers with mine, he leaned his face in close. His warm breathe brushed my cheeks. "Paranoid, or would we be called caring?"

Harry meanwhile, had stopped right where he was standing, green eyes screwed up with concentration, "Is that Niall up there?" he asked, cocking his head to the side to peer at the blonde head of hair farther up the walk.

My stomach lurched in recgonition, "No that's not him." I stammered, stepping in front of the group of boys with my arms crossed. "And if it was, you should leave him alone anyway."

Zayn smirked and pushed up his sleeves, "Why shouldn't we though?"

I bit my lip anxiously, "Because it's mean what you're doing."

Liam scuffed his sneaker against the ground, "Guys she might be right."

"Or she might be wrong." Louis murmured, patting my cheek lightly before taking off after Niall. Zayn and Harry raced after him, backpacks jostling up and down as they chased their target.

My hand flew up to my mouth, "Oh my god!" I whispered, watching them get closer.

Liam shifted weight on his feet, "I'm so sorry." he murmured, before taking off after them, leaving me standing alone in the middle of the walk.

"Good to see you again Nialler!" I heard Louis cackle from ahead. Zayn threw an arm roughly around Nialls neck, dragging him into a nearby alley.

I gasped as he disappeared from view. "Leave him alone!" I screamed, sprinting after them and turning the corner into the darkened alley that was squished between two stores. It was cooler here in the shade, fast food wrappers and other rubbish strewn across the ground. The air smelled like rotting fruit.

Niall was backed up against the stained brick wall, backpack hanging haphazardly off him as Louis and Zayn circled their prey.

"Stop it!" I yelled, running forward to jump on them. Strong arms wrapped around my waist, yanking me backwards. I fell against Liam's chest, who instantly had my wrists pinned to my sides.

Niall looked at me with desperate eyes, before they hardened and turned back to Louis. "Leave me alone you cunts." he hissed.

Zayn took a couple menacing steps towards Niall. The blonde boy instinctly stepped back, but Harry was there, sticking out a foot and sending Niall sprawling to the ground. His backpack ripped open, white papers flying through the air.

Niall was about to jump to his feet when Louis planted a foot on his chest, sending him flying back to the ground. I protested loudly as his head banged against the cement.

"Well are you feeling tough now?" Louis taunted, leaning in close to Niall.

Niall bit his lip and looked back determinedly. "Tougher then you wusses will ever be."

And he spit. Right in Louis's face.

"Go Niall!" I cheered, trying to yank myself from Liam's grip. He held on tighter, shirt buttons digging into my back.

Louis's eyes darkened, "You shouldn't do that." I watched in horror as his fist came down and connected with Nialls jaw. And then Zayn was there too, fists whizzing through the air. The dull thud of the strikes echoed down the alley.

"NIALL!" I screamed, "Louis Tomlinson, you bastard! I'm gonna kick your ass, stop it!" They ignored me, keeping up the persistent blows.

"I'm sorry." Liam whispered, struggling to hold onto my flailing arms.

I glared up at him, "Not sorry enough." I shot back harshly, bringing my foot down on his.

It all happened so fast. Liam's grip loosened, allowing me to rip myself from his tight hold. Harry reached out to grab me, but I slipped under his arms. It was a flurry of flying fists and shouts as I forced my way between Zayn and Louis and in front of Niall.

"Look out!" Louis screamed, as a fist connected with the side of my head. Pain erupted from my skull, and I staggered to my knees, clutching my head in agony.

Warm hands caught me before I hit the ground. I closed my eyes and let darkness pull me under.
