"Wait!" I whispered frantically, "Who's trying to get in?"
Liam didn't answer, instead gently nudged me into Niall's room and began to shut the door. I stuck my foot out to prevent it from closing all the way.
"Why is it such a big deal?" I pestered, pushing the door back open.
Puffing out his cheek, Liam let out a slow sigh. "Katie, listen to me. You are going to stay in this room. Be quiet, and hide if you sense trouble. Don't leave this room."
"Are you seriously trying to hide me in here?" I huffed.
"Just listen to me. Stay put."
"But why are you so afraid of him?" I asked, "I've never seen you guys afraid of someone."
A worried glint flashed across his brown eyes. Pressing a hand to my mouth, he leaned in close. "Keep quiet." he murmured, planting a soft kiss to my temple. I closed my eyes briefly at the sensation, warm lips brushing my skin.
The click of a lock broke my trance. When I opened my eyes again, the door was shut, and the sound of retreating footsteps echoed out in the hall.
I quickly lunged forward and wrestled with the doorknob. "Damn it." I huffed, pressing my back against the wood and sinking to the floor.
A sudden idea struck me. Twisting over, I lay flat on my stomach, ear turned towards the crack under the door where a thin sliver of light was leaking out. I held my breathe and listened.
"Well, of it isn't my good friend Louis." a stranger growled. It must of been the man from outside, pounding on the door. I leaned in closer. His voice was deep and cocky, laced with an edge of warning to it. No wonder they were scared.
"Hello Adam." Louis replied stiffly, and I could sense him tense up.
The man, Adam I suppose, let out a deep chuckle. "Well you don't seem so happy to see me. Man, we worked together for so long and this is how I get treated? Coma changed you."
"Do you need something?" Zayn interrupted.
If only I could see what was going on. Reaching up, I tugged at the door again. Locked tight. "Oh my god!" I gasped suddenly, yanking the bobby pin out of my hair.
"This is an important life lesson." Louis explained, tugging out the bobby pin that fastened my bangs back. "Picking a lock."
Putting it between his teeth, he stretched it out into one long metal piece, before sliding it into the door.
"When will I need this?" I asked in exasperation.
Louis shrugged as he fiddled with the door. "Who knows. Breaking into door, cages, safes." There was a clicking sound and the door swung open. "Escape." **
Smiling at the memory, I repeated the same process he taught me, cheering quietly when the door actually opened. I crouched down and quietly peeked around the corner to see the action unfold.
A large man was standing in the living room. Muscular arms folded across his chest, tattoos inking most of his skin. He was bald and had a crooked nose and even more crooked teeth that were pulled back into a wicked grin. So this was Adam. The man they feared most.
"So." Adam drawled, leaning back against the couch. "I obviously saw the news." He turned towards Niall suddenly, "Who's the blonde kid?"
"Um." Niall struggled for an answer before Louis stepped in.
"A friend. Now why the hell are you here. I'm not in the mood to play games." Louis's grey eyes were glaring angrily at Adam, a veil of darkness cast over him. He radiated power, muscles tensed as he stared the the intruder. He reminded me of ice, of snow.
