"We got trouble." Zayn whispered, shaking me slightly.
I blinked several times, running a hand over my eyes. Was I dreaming? My fingers pinched the skin on my upper arm. Definently not dreaming.
"What are you doing here?" I asked wearily, too tired to put up a fight.
Zayn shifted anxiously from where he was standing, "Well we ran into a bit of trouble, and well, um we'll explain it later but for now we need you to come with us."
"Trouble?" I repeated dumbfounded.
Harry popped his curly head of hair out of my bathroom, "Trouble indeed."
I glanced around my room for the first time, noticing Harry, Louis, and Liam were scurrying around my room. They rifled through my drawers, jamming random articles of clothing into a backpack they had.
"And what are you guys doing to my stuff ?" I asked dumbfounded.
Louis carefully slipped my hairbrush into the backpacks side pocket, "Packing your overnight bag."
My stomach twisted in warning. This was not good, not very good at all. Something was terribly wrong. A rising sense of panic tugged at me, which I tried to ignore.
"Overnight bag?" I ran a hand frustratedly through my hair, "It's too late for this kind of crap guys."
Zayn tried for a comforting smile, "Well your coming with us."
With a sigh I flopped back onto my bed, pulling a pillow over my head. I bit down hard on the fabric. Breathe in. Breathe out. Trying to calm my fluttering heart and the worry that was washing over me. Why was I used to this stuff happening with them?
"Why now?" I asked into the pillow, "Why so late?" I pressed it harder against my face,"Why did you guys choose me?"
Soft hands came over mine and pulled the pillow away gently. Zayns big brown eyes appeared inches from mine, looking down with a kindness that made my fingertips tingle.
"I told you guys to leave me alone." I mumbled sleepily, as he tucked a lock of hair behind my ear.
"Well we will, " he whispered, "Once this is all over."
His arms suddenly snaked under my legs and onto the small of my back, lifting me up bridal styles and depositing me safely onto the floor.
"You expect me to just come with you guys? No explanation, just come with us? Why do I even need an overnight bag?"
Zayn handed me a sweatshirt, which I slipped on over my tshirt and pajama shorts.
"Well your staying at Louis's place." My back stiffened at his words. "We're all staying there." he added hastily.
Louis appeared next to me, eyes glimmering "Don't look so upset about it love."
"Trust us?" Liam murmured, holding his arms out for a hug.
I eyed him wearily, taking a step back. Silence fell across the room. "Fine. I trust you. For now."
"Good." Louis grabbed my elbow and yanked me out of the room, tugging me through the darkened house.
"What about my mom?" I whispered as we snuck down the stairs.
Louis reached the bottom and opened the door for me, "She thinks your at a friends house."
I stepped outside, shivering in the chill that swept through the night. The ground was blanketed with a hazy fog. Tipping my face back, I looked at the moon hanging over us. Breathtaking.
My sleeve was tugged, pulling my gaze away. "You can look at the sky later." Louis explained, leading me towards a dark car parked in the street.
I stopped abruptly in my tracks, "Who's car is that?"
Nobody answered. Somewhere a cricket chirped it's night song.
"And none of you can drive." I exclaimed, looking over at them. The darkness hid their expressions, making it impossible to see what they were thinking.
Harry dangled a set of keys from the end of his long finger, "We don't have a license but we can drive."
With a flick of his wrist, the car doors unlocked. The other boys began piling in. Louis held open the passengers side door for me. "You going in?" he teased.
I shook my head, suddenly scared. The situation hit me like a punch in the gut. It was late, and these boys, these boys who brought me a life of trouble were trying to take me away in this mystery car.
"Don't be difficult." Louis said, voice hardening.
I opened my mouth to protest, but could only release a whimper. No way. Not happening.
Louis left the door, coming closer to me. "Don't make this hard Katie. You're getting in that car one way or another."
I turned to run, to hide, to do anything to get away. My sweatshirt hood was yanked, jerking me back. With a gasp I fell into Louis's arms.
"No time for this now." he growled, shoving me into the open car. The door was slammed shut, lock clicking into place. I pressed my forehead against the glass window, and made a wish for this to end well.
But my wishes never came true.
