"Oh man." Louis murmured, struggling to keep his eyes open "I'm really tired."
I brushed some fringe off his forehead, smiling as he hummed softly and leaned into my touch.
"Seems like you've gotten enough rest. Been out cold for a month now." Harry sniffed, wiping away tears that had been leaking on the edges of his green eyes.
"A month." Louis marveled. His eyebrows scrunched in confusion. "What's been going on this past month?"
"You died." I said flatly.
Louis shrugged modestly, "Well besides that."
"Katie's mom says she's not allowed to see us anymore." Zayn commented, leaning back in his chair and folding his arms behind his head.
Louis blinked, "I don't understand why."
"Maybe the whole, she almost got shot thing didn't go over well." Liam replied with a smirk. Louis chewed on his lip thoughtfully.
"Well then why are you here now?" he asked, "Breaking the rules, eh?"
I felt a blush creep up my neck. "I guess I can't stay away." I mumbled, fiddling with my fingers.
"Not that I would let you." Louis muttered, sending chills racing up my spine. I peered up at him through my eyelashes. He winked before letting out a yawn.
"I think I'm gonna take a nap." he murmured, eyes fluttering. Wrapping his blanket tighter, he sank down into the pillows.
I grabbed his hand in panic, "Will you wake up again?"
His eyes shot open, the stormy grey piercing mine. "Will you wake up again?" I repeated forcefully, "Promise not to go back into a coma?"
I felt his fingers close around my wrist, tugging me forward. "I cross my heart, I'll wake right back up babe." he whispered, hot breathe tickling my ear.
And just like that, he was asleep. His grip on me slackened as he dozed off.
"Now what?" Liam asked, interrupting the peaceful silence that had fallen around the room as we watched Louis sleep.
There was a screech of car tires come from out the window. Zayns eyes flashed with worry, immediatly flickering over to me and dragging me closer towards him.
"What's wrong?" I asked, attempting to peel his fingers off.
He let go reluctantly, "Nothing. Don't worry about it." Digging around in his pocket, he pulled out a pack of cigarettes and tipped one out.
"We have to figure out our next move." he exclaimed. I watched as he placed the cigarette to his lips and lit it.
"Do you have to do that here?" I asked in exasperation. He ignored me.
"Now that Louis's awake, we might want to head out of town for a while. Lay low. Katie's family is gonna be looking for her."
I stared at him, "So you're just taking me with you? Just think I'd follow along?"
Zayn puffed out a cloud of smoke, "I wasn't asking if you wanted to come."
"Well you can't just take her." someone hissed from behind us. Everyone turned, seeing none other then a blonde haired boy leaning in the doorway. My heart leapt with recognition.
"Niall!" I exclaimed, jumping to my feet to run at him. A hand caught the back of my tshirt, yanking me back.
"Don't go near him." Harry growled, wrapping his arms around my waist. Zayn stood up slowly, dropping his cigarette and crushing it under how converse.
"What are you doing here?" Zayn spat as he glared at the scuffed up boy across from me.
Niall ran a hand through his rumpled locks, "I've been in a bit of jam."
I struggled against Harry, but his strong arms held me tightly in place. "Let me go!" I shrieked.
Nialls eyes flickered with worry, and I noticed how beat up he looked. His clothes were a dirty mess hanging off him loosely, a large bruise on his temple.
"You guys gotta get out of here." Niall whispered, "Just trust me on this. You gotta hurry and leave."
"Why should we?" Zayn drawled, fist tightening at his side.
"Because I'm here." someone said from the hall. Niall suddenly flew to the floor, scrambling around to gape at the stranger that appeared.
But I knew that person. That person had made my blood run cold and almost killed my best friend.
"Mark." Zayn growled. His eyes darkened to a deathly shade, like a beast inside of him was awake. Muscles tightened and jaw locked, his breathe came out in short puffs as he gritted his teeth.
"Miss me?" Mark laughed, stepping into the room and closing the door behind him. I heard the lock click in place. He was smiling. Like this was all funny, like this was some kind of game. He thrived on fear and others misery. My stomach flipped, suddenly feeling very sick.
"I really missed you guys." Mark sighed, an evil smirk plastered to his face "Especially you Katie." Harry's grip tightened on me.
"I'm gonna kill you." Zayn whispered. He was standing stock still, eyes burning with fury "I'm gonna kill you. You are going to regret every single thing you've done. Then I'll kill you again."
Mark looked over at Louis laying defenslessly in bed. His mouth twitched in his sleep, mumbling something before burying his head in his pillow.
"That sounds like fun." Mark said apologetically, "But I have other plans."
