"That sounds like fun." Mark said apologetically, "But I have other plans."
He stepped into the room slowly, letting the door shut behind him. I felt Harry's arms tighten around me as Mark's piercing gaze swept around the room and lingered on mine.
"Hey sweetheart." he cackled, shooting me a crooked grin.
I sneered at him in disgust, "Don't talk to me you filthy bastard."
My blood was boiling at the sight of him. All I wanted to do was run and punch him so hard, make him feel all the pain that I've had to endure this past month. All the hurt and the tears and the brokenness. It wasn't fair that he could just stand there and....smile.
Harry must've sensed my fury, his fingers tightening on my waist as he pulled me to his chest.
Mark whistled slightly, "You sure are a feisty one." He elbowed Zayn lightly in the side like they were good pals, "I don't know how you keep her in place mate."
"I'm not in the mood for your games." Zayn hissed, shoving him away.
Mark stumbled back, steadying himself on the wall. "But I like games." he whined. "I like the game where I'm trying to shoot the girl you love, but big mouth here gets in the way." He nods towards Louis sleeping.
"SHUT UP!" I scream, momentarily slipping from Harry's arm. I've taken only two steps when I get tackled and crash to the floor, Harry's hand tightening on the back of my tshirt as he drags me back.
"They keep you on a tight leash babe." Mark chuckles, watching in amusement as I struggle against Harry's tight grip. He takes a step towards me, only being blocked by Zayn.
"Don't go near her." Zayn growls, looking dark and dangerous and ready to cause some serious damage. His hands clench at his sides, muscles looking rigid and cheeks flushed with anger.
Mark pretends to pout, "But I want a turn with Katie. Besides, you can't always protect her."
"Watch me." Zayn whispers.
In a sudden flash, Marks fist flies out and hits the unsuspecting Zayn right in the face. Zayn's still tired from being up all day and most of the night, and not suspecting the attack. He's on the ground instantly clutching his nose.
"ZAYN!" I shriek in surprise. Harry shoves me behind him, his muscular frame blocking me from the upcoming fight. Fisting the fabric of his tshirt, I peer around him as Liam lands a punch.
"WHERE IS A NURSE IN THIS GOD DAMNED HOSPITAL?" Harry yells as Liam slams into the wall, sending cracks racing up the plaster. Chunks of ceiling fall down and scatter on the ground.
Louis rolls over in his sleep, mumbling something incoherent and burying his face into the pillow. Liam goes flying back against a medical table and tumbles to the floor.
"Stop it!" I shriek, struggling to move and help them. Harry whirls around, grabbing my arms and shaking me roughly.
"Stay right here Katie." he growls, turning and tackling Mark. They roll around on the floor, trying to land punches, with Harry at an obvious disadvantage. They're all tired and worn out from the trauma and all I can do is stand there with my back pressed against Louis's hospital bed as I gape in shock.
Mark stands up and brushes off his hands. "Leave them alone." Zayn murmurs, staggering to his feet. All it takes is a single push and he's on the ground again.
"Too easy." Mark scoffs, going up to Louis's bed. I grab a mop and raise it as a weapon. Easily my wrist is grabbed and the mop ripped from my grip and thrown to the ground. He reaches towards Louis.
And that's when Niall, still on the floor, reaches above his head and pulls the fire alarm.
A shrieking siren suddenly cuts across the hospital. Louis jerks away with a slight scream, his sleepy eyes instantly locking on Mark at the end of his bed.
"You." Louis says in disbelief.
"It's me alright." Mark chirps, dropping my hand as a nurse screams from the hallway. "I'm sad to see you survived Louis. I was so sure I killed you."
And he's gone, slipping out into the hall and disappearing into the crowd.
I blink, my mind still racing to comprehend everything that just happened so quickly.
"God damn it!" Zayn screams, punching the ground. He stumbles to his feet, grabbing me roughly and hugging me against his chest so tight my feet lift the floor.
"You're not leaving me." he mumbles into my hair, shoulders shaking "I'm not letting you leave me."
We stand there for a while, him clinging onto me as the sirens go off over head and nurses struggle to help patients out in the hallway. The overhead sprinklers click on and water begins to pour from the ceiling.
"Well." Zayn murmurs, setting me back down on the ground. "It's time to get out of here." Water has already soaked his hair and rolls down his face, dripping from his chin.
Harry and Liam get to their feet slowly. "We gotta break Louis out." Liam says, grabbing a nearby wheelchair.
"You can come to my place." Niall mumbles. Everybody turns and stares at him. He stands up and approaches us wearily.
"I know you hate me " he says, "But I think we're all on the same team."
Zayn is frozen for a second, "Fine. Allies, for now."
