She decided against it, both of them needed to rest for the sake of their clan. They shouldn't let their personal matters interfere with the rest of the clan. "The Riverclan warriors doesn't seem to be a threat, I'm guessing they just slipped on ice that's all. No big matter. And the mentors seem to be very pleased with the apprentices' progress in hunting," Squirrelflight reported, "Also, Jayfeather thinks that his medicine stock will be enough to last us through the winter though some of his plants in the old cottage died, he collected the rest to save them from the cold." Bramblestar was listening intently, nodding his head now and then when he gave Squirrelflight a look that spread warmth throughout her body even though snow was starting to fall once again. "Have I ever told you how intelligent you are? And how I'm so lucky to have you as my deputy?" Squirrelflight was dumbfounded, and she scrambled for an answer but all the while, she and Bramblestar locked eyes on each other, his gaze full of longing and memories of their Great Journey swimming in his eyes.

The world slows down but my heart beats fast right now

Just as she decided to answer him, a sharp voice sprang out from behind her and Squirrelflight's heart sank. Jessie.

I know this is the part where the end starts

"Oh hi Squirrelflight," her voice sounded like flint as she stared at her, before moving to Bramblestar and twining her tail with his. Squirrelflight's heart squeezed in pain but she forced herself to ignore it. Bramblestar didn't even attempt to move away, though he did look uneasy. Why didn't he? She was doing this in front of his previous mate! Squirrelflight stood there dumbly as she felt waves of disapproval, even hatred emanating from Jessie. It was funny how she remembered Jessie saying that Squirrelflight was more suited to Bramblestar three moons ago. "Um Jessie, is there anything you need to tell me?" Bramblestar looked at her and then at Squirrelflight uncertainly.

I can't take it any longer, thought that we were stronger, all we do is linger, slipping through our fingers

"Oh yes I do, but I can't tell you with..." at this she made an eye signal towards Squirrelflight who pretended to look everywhere but at them, "...around. It's private." Bramblestar then turned to Squirrelflight, "Excuse us?" Squirrelflight flicked her tail in dismissal, "Sure. I'm done reporting." "Thanks, you have nothing else to tell me?" Bramblestar prodded her. She shook her head, "even if I did, you wouldn't do anything about it," she thought to herself, cold gripping her heart. He was always scared to oppose Jessie and confront her about doing this in front of Squirrelflight. She knew this because she knew he was uncomfortable with it too everytime it happened. At this, Jessie led him away and Squirrelflight watched as they both padded out of the camp, tails twined and flanks brushing. She had to tell him to make his choice clear and go with Jessie, or it would kill her everytime this thing happens, her left all alone, heart torn between whether he still loved her or not- because his eyes betray his words.

I don't want to try now, all that's left is goodbye to, find a way that I can tell you, I hate this part right here
