Better in time

This scene is based upon the song which is the title, it is by Leona Lewis ;)

It had been three moons now since Squirrelflight had told Bramblestar that things had ended between them but inside she felt an ache that she couldn't get rid of even though she very well knew that it was she who gave him up- for the good of both of them. She was hunting, but even though spring was here, most of the prey had not come out from their hibernation yet. No matter, she would wait, it would help her anyway, everytime she went into the camp she was met with Bramblestar and Jessie twining tails and laughing along with each other, and she was once again reminded of how much she had lost. Her thoughts flew back to the worst winter she's ever been through her whole life, without Bramblestar beside her but was instead with another female.

It's been the longest winter without you
I didn't know where to turn to

She had been lost and overcome with sorrow at what she had done, but she could not talk to Sandstorm about it for she would not truly understand why she'd give Bramblestar up so easily like that, especially when it was clear that he still liked her. She couldn't talk to Leafpool either for she was so busy treating a few cats who was down with whitecough. She had in the end decided to face it alone, it was her problem, she shouldn't drag other cats in it with her, after all, wasn't that what she had done the last time that had caused her so much trouble?

See somehow I can't forget you
After all that we've been through

But try as she might, she couldn't forget about Bramblestar and the memories they shared together, especially those of the Great Journey. Her heart broke a little more with each thought of him.

Going coming
Thought I heard a call (Whose there, no one?)

Everytime she had went out hunting or patrolling, she had always thought she heard Bramblestar calling her name and she had then always went back to check, hope pounding in her heart even though she knew it oughtn't. She was the one who told him they should part ways, he had no reason to come back for her, especially once he has a female like Jessie.  But, as always, she had always ended up in a place where there was no cat present at all and only the winds blew a whisper to her ear that she was fooling herself. Each time, she would feel disappointed and angry at herself.

Thinking that (I deserve it)

She knew that she had deserved it, after all that she had done, all the lying and cheating- not only to her own mate, her other half, but to her entire clan as well. She didn't deserve any better than what she still had now.

Now I have realized
That I really didn't know

She shook her head, clearing her head of those sad thoughts, she didn't know any better during that time, and she had done it anyway so now she would live with the consequences. It's not like that there is any other choice left for her.

If you didn't notice
You mean everything

Her belly squeezed in tightness as she heard laughter further down the bushes and saw the tail tip of Jessie and Bramblestar, intertwined tightly together. She turned away, Bramblestar nowadays just plain ignored her, unless when they were discussing about the clan. Other than that, they never spoke.  She felt the loss of him even more clearly whenever she saw Bramblestar and Jessie together, she had once been that she-cat, who meant everything to him but was now discarded like rotten prey. But her feelings never changed for him, he still meant everything to her.

(quickly I'm learning)

A rustle in the bushes startled her from her thoughts and she was pleasantly surprised to see Greenfern, a new tomcat who had just joined Thunderclan little less than a moon ago, poke his face through the bushes. He seemed to cling around her a lot lately, and she wondered whether his friendliness was just because of his friendly nature or was it because of a more deeper interest......Her fur tingled at the last thought. Maybe she could open up to him a bit more now, since he really meant no harm and didn't deserve her short answers that she gave to him over the past few days when she found him following her throughout camp.

To love again

Greenfern looked down, his shyness catching Squirrelflight off-guard and she padded closer to him, laying her tail across his shoulders. "Are you alright?" He looked up as he heard Squirrelflight's kind voice, "I was wondering......do you......would you want to go on a hunt with me?" Squirrelflight's ears pricked up and her heart thudded faster, should she say yes or no? After hesitating for a second, with Greenfern's dark green eyes looking into her own emerald ones, she nodded, "Of course."

 (all I know is)

The both of them then made their way deeper into the forest, with her falling in step with Greenfern, her adrenaline rushing at the thought of the hunt in which she had now a partner after hunting for so long.

Imma be okay
