2 weeks later

I got the phone call 5 minutes ago. Dave is finally being let out of the hospital. After all the excitement and my happy dancing was over I finally got ready and hopped into the car. I had stayed in Texas ever since the party. I was now living with the Striders. Helping cook them actual food and comforting them while we waited for Dave to get out. Bro was at work, Dirk asleep in his bed when the hospital called. I awoke Dirk and we were off, calling Bro on the way.
In the office we waited for them to bring him out. Wearing the scrubs the hospital provided he walked out. Bags under his eyes and his hair sticking out in odd angles. He smiled. I ran to him, careful not to hurt him, and embraced him. He was weak. I could feel it. Just made me more excited to bring him home. So he could be in my care. My Dave.

On the way home I kept glancing in the rear view mirror. Both Striders asleep. It was peaceful. I drove up to the apartment complex and woke them both. We helped Dave inside and to his bed. We laid him down carefully. I stared at him.

"I don't remember you ever being this creepy.", he smiled weakly.

"Sorry, I just miss looking at you.", I apologized.

He chuckled.
