Chapter 19-

"Hey there Tyrant." her voice rings in my ears. "if you don't get up now we'll miss it!" I groan and pull the covers over my head. "Tyranttttt!" she whines. "get up."

"Tomorrow." I said groggily. "Let's skip it today and do it tomorrow."

"No way. Get up or I will be forced to take desperate measures." she didn't give me a chance to think about it before brutally dragging my covers off me, leaving me feeling very cold. I shiver and curl up.

"CYNTHIA." I complain.

"What? I did warn you!" I narrow my eyes at her. Her smile lights up her whole face. She looks a lot like mom. Her smile, her eyes, her everything was just as perfect as moms.

"you didn't give me a fair chance!" I whine sitting up.

"Whatever. Here yah go. Put 'em on quick." she held up a pair of my sneakers and a sweater.

I groan and take them from her.

It was a tradition of Cynthia's to get up very early every morning and watch the sun come up. She said there was something magical about watching it. I was ten and not as open minded as she was. Still, even today, I fail to see the magic is watching a sun rise.

An hour later we were laying in the grass on our front lawn watching the sky turn to a light blue.

"this is stupid. I wanna go back to sleep Cynthia." I complain.

"In a minute tyrant. Come on, we haven't even been out here that long yet." her eyes were bright as she watched. They were also searching. I was searching too, for what. I have no idea. Cynthia didn't know what she was looking for either. Yet she was still looking.

"Hey Tyrant?"her voice was soft. That's what kept me from, snapping at her.

"What?" I say trying to match her tone.

"Wanna know a secret?"

I shrug, but inside I was starting to jump. I loved secrets.

"You can't tell anyone."

"I won't. I promise."

She kept her eyes on the sky as she spoke. "I know you won't Tyrant. Here it is, you ready?" I nod eagerly. "Only little stars shoot."

I paused.

"what?"

"Only little stars shoot Tyrant. The ones that are far away and can barely be seen. The one that you don't really notice. Only those ones shoot forward Tyrant. The big ones are too close to us to shoot, so really they only just fall, not shoot. Not like the little ones do." I tried to make some sense of what she was saying, but honestly I just didn't get it. Cynthia and her riddles always seemed impossible to figure out.

"Now they might not be as bright as the big ones or as pretty to look at. But those are the ones that make it. The little ones."

"I don't get it..."

"you will one day, when you're older. When you're wiser."

"You're 16. You're not that wise!"

"True! However age is just a number." she smiles a little then goes back to a straight face. That's how I know she wasn't playing games. She was serious.

"I still don't see what that has to do with anything,"

"Well Tyrant. You're a little star." she looks at me with shiny eyes. "Don't worry you'll shoot forward. One day...."

I scoff. Did she just call me momentarily insignificant? Ouch.

"So what are you?"

She smiles. Not a happy smile, a sad teary smile. "I'm a big star."
