Prolouge:
I’m walking towards her chamber after she called upon me; I know what she wants and no matter what, I should tell her the truth, but how can I? To do so will put me in danger as well as her. Her, I can’t get her out of my head, her eyes being the color of honey and her hair so golden it shone like the sun even in the darkest night. I should’ve killed her along with the rest of them; I was ordered to do so but I just couldn’t. Something in the pit of my stomach stopped me.
I walk further down the great hall; beneath my feet is the most intricately designed rug full of depictions dragons and warriors. On my right side, stand three large windows draped in the deepest red curtains and beneath each sits a luxurious twenties style couch. Everything about this place is luxury and castle like modeling. I reach her corridor and knock to assure her I’m here, even though I’m pretty sure she can hear me easily from a mile away.
“Do come in.” She says from the other side of the door. I open it slowly and step cautiously inside and close it swiftly behind me.
“You killed them right?” she asks nervously pacing back and forth. Her deep red hair is tousled in frustration. My palms start to sweat; I need to lie to her to keep her safe, but that’s treason. Is it really worth dying over a girl I don’t know? My wolf growls deep inside and claws at me, the feeling isn’t exactly pleasant and I almost double over in front of Terra. According to my wolf it’s worth my life, but I’m torn.
“Well?” she asks with aggression as she looks at me closely, expecting me to lie. Shit! I can’t lie now, she’ll know. I have to think … I have to think… think…
“I killed the deserter and her male human, but the girl wasn’t with them.” I say with the straightest face I can possibly pull off in hopes of her not catching my little white lie.
“Well, this could be quite problematic, or useful…” she puts her long manicured finger to her lips as she stops pacing to look at me, “Do you know where she is?” she asks.
“No Ma’am.” I say clearing my throat of nervousness.
“I think we may need her.” The gleam in her piercing green eyes are devilish and full of hate. “Could you be a dear and fetch her for me and bring her here?” she asks.
“With honor Ma’am.” I say robotically, I can’t believe what I’ve done. By lying to the Queen I may have put her in more danger. Terra waves me away and I walk out quickly with my hands buried deep in my pocket. I pull out a small oval locket with an engraved angel on it; I open it and come face to face with a young girl with blonde hair and brown eyes. I stare in amazement; her smile is radiant and full of love. On the side of the open locket is also engraved, a name, a name I’ll never be able to forget, Avery.
