"So you're a Morph?" Sara, my best friend, couldn't believe it when I called her the next day on video chat. "That's awesome, Care Bear!"
Sara calls me Care Bear as a nickname. At first I didn't like it, but by now I'm used to it.
"For the last time, Sara, yes, I'm a Morph." I smiled. "A fox."
"Show me, show me!" Sara grinned.
"Well, it's not exactly controlled." I told her. "Mom says I'll get better at controlling it over time, and that no one is a master their second day."
"Well, can you try?" Sara asked. "Please, Carrie?"
"Fine, I'll try." I told her.
"Yay!" Sara smiled.
"Sometimes you remind me of Rose," I laughed. "But, anyways,"
I concentrated on becoming a fox...
Be a fox... Be a fox... Be a fox...
"Carrie?" She asked.
"I'm trying..." I told her.
I thought about being a fox. How it felt when I popped into my Morph form yesterday,
Then, my stomach felt uneasy and my bones ached. Was I going to feel this every time I Morphed? It was really uncomfortable.
Then, I popped into my animal form.
With my animal eyes, I couldn't see the phone screen clearly (it was a blur of colors to me), but I could tell Sara was speechless.
"I thought you said your Morph was a fox." I heard.
It... is.
As an animal, I couldn't talk, which is good because when I looked down, I would've shrieked.
My paws weren't red and white like yesterday. They were gray, and bigger.
My tail wasn't red with a tip of white like yesterday. It was also gray, and more like a wolf's.
That's when I realized I was a wolf, not a fox.
I popped back into a human.
"But- yesterday... I was a fox yesterday, I swear," I was flustered. "But that's impossible,"
"Only one animal per Morph," Sara said. "That's weird. You're sure you were a fox yesterday?"
"Positive." I told her.
"Hmm, that's really strange." Sara told me. "Well, I gotta go. See ya,"
Sara ended the Video Chat.
I grabbed my phone, and then walked out of my room, looking for Mom, hoping to talk to her privately about what happened.
"Carrie!" Rose walked up to me. "Can you Morph? Please? I wanna see you Morph again!"
Convenient timing. I was scared that I would Morph into the wrong animal again, so I told her no.
"Please?" Rose begged.
"Not now, Rose, I have to talk to Mom." I told her.
"Oh, remember? Mom's at the store," Rose told me. "So you can show me,"
Great.
"What about Dad?" I asked. I really needed to talk to someone.
"Dad's in his office, but I wouldn't disturb him. He says the phone call is really important. Some work stuff with his boss." Rose shrugged. "So please?"
"I already told you no, Rose." I sighed. "Sorry, I'll show you another time," When I've figured this all out, that is.
Rose gave me puppy dog eyes. "Pleeeease???"
"No, Rose, it's not going to work this time," I shook my head.
I walked by Rose and up the stairs, and into my room again. I collapsed onto my bed and pulled out my phone. Sighing, I Googled "Morphing Into The Wrong Animal".
The results were all stuff like counseling if you're disappointed with your Morph form.
None about the situation I'm in. So it's never happened before, at least, not that social media knows.
I sighed and put down my phone. That's not gonna be any help.
"Well," I sighed to myself, "I guess I'm just gonna have to figure this out on my own."
I stood up and walked to the center of my room. Taking a deep breath, I started to focus on becoming a fox. Fox, fox, fox. Fox, fox, fox. Not wolf, fox. Fox, fox, fox.
I didn't feel uncomfortable. I just popped into a fox.
Yes, I smiled on the inside, because foxes can't really smile. I did it.
I started to do a little fox happy dance when Rose walked in.
"Oh, so you can do it by yourself, but you can't do it with me?" Rose asked. She actually didn't seem too upset. "Can I pet you?"
I'm not a dog, Rose, I wanted to say, but I let her gently stroke my fur.
"Ok, now turn back," Rose said.
Turn back? Into a human?
Human, human, human... Carrie, Carrie, Carrie...
I popped into a human. Thankfully. I didn't want to turn into a wolf in front of Rose.
"That's cool," Rose smiled in awe. "But why didn't you do it downstairs?"
"Um, I've been having some trouble with my Morphing, and I didn't think I could do it." I told her. It's the truth, just minus the wolf part.
"Oh." Rose seemed to understand. "Well, you can do it now,"
"Yeah, I'm trying to practice in my room," I told her.
"Ok, well, I'll leave you to that." Rose got up and left. "See ya, Carrie."
Whew, that was close. I was scared she would ask me to turn back into a fox...
Now that Rose was gone, I could Morph some more.
However, I didn't get a chance to, because Dad was calling me downstairs.
Apparently, he got off the phone with work, and now he wants to do a private training session with me so I could learn to control my Morphing. I gulped. What if I Morph into a wolf again?
But Dad wouldn't take no for an answer, so I followed him to the backyard and looked at the obstacle course he set up, for me to do as a fox.
Oh, what am I gonna do?
