The next morning, I got ready and went to breakfast in the mess hall.

The mess hall was big enough to hold the whole 300-some students at Jenning's, but not terribly huge. It was a cafeteria, but much more fancy than your average public school's cafeteria. It had a whole buffet line with everything from pizza to baked potatoes to chicken tenders to salad- and don't forget desert! It had a different flavor of cake each day, repeating flavors per week. There was also a simple ice cream dispenser! I mean, it only had chocolate, vanilla, and swirl, but it was still way cool.

My roommate, Lauren, had shown up last night. We didn't really talk much until this morning, and she offered to sit by me at lunch. A girl named Megan Vermont also joined us. Lauren was average height, so just slightly taller than me. She had curly chocolate brown hair that flowed down past her shoulders. She had brown eyes and skin with a slight hint of pink in her face. Megan, on the other hand, was shorter (like me) with straight blonde hair (with hints of brown) that was shoulder length. She had freckles on her cheeks, just below her blue eyes. She was pale, but not in an unhealthy way.

"Anyone want my sausage?" I offered.

"I'll have it." Lauren said.

I handed her my sausage and she ate it happily.

"So, what's your Morph form, Carrie?" Asked Lauren.

"Fox. You?" I told her nonchalantly, like it was no big deal.

"Bunny." Lauren smiled. "Well, a hare, if you want to be technical."

"Cute." I told her. "Megan?"

"An owl." Megan told me.

"Oh, like in Harry Potter," I smiled. I was almost jealous that I hadn't gotten an owl Morph form. I guess I'll get it someday, but I won't be able to be an owl unless I'm completely alone.

Megan smiled. "You like Harry Potter? So do I."

"Same here!" Lauren grinned. "I'm Ravenclaw. Wit beyond measure is a man's greatest treasure."

"I'm Gryffindor." I said. "Where dwell the brave at heart."

"I'm Hufflepuff." Megan said. "Where all is just and loyal."

"Did you know that your Morph form is Luna Lovegood's Patronus form?" I asked Lauren.

"Yes! She's my favorite character and I'm honored to have her Patronus for a Morph form." Lauren grinned.

"My favorite character is Hermione." I said. "Although my Morph form, a fox, is the same as Seamus Finnigan's Patronus."

"Really?" Lauren asked. "I didn't know that."

"I'm an owl, like Hedwig, or Pigwidgeon." Megan said. "I've even carried a couple letters before, just for the fun of it."

"That's so cool." I grinned. "If I ever need a letter delivered, I'll let you know."

We all laughed.

"You'll never know the thrill of flying." Megan said. "It's honestly my favorite feeling in the whole world."

Well, I don't know about never, I thought, but of course I didn't say it, because then they would get suspicious.

"You're lucky you can fly, but hopping as a bunny is pretty cool." Lauren said.

"Being a fox is cool." I said, although I couldn't think of anything in specific to make it so.

"Hey, nerd." A girl with a platinum blonde ponytail bouncing behind her came up to us, walking in a way that screams the stereotypical cheerleader. She was glaring at Megan. Then she turned to Lauren and me. She didn't seem to recognize us. "I'm Victoria Dale, the popular girl here at Jennings. And, trust me, you don't want to be hanging around with Vermont. She's such a nerd, it's disgusting."

"Introduce yourself to someone who cares, Victoria." Megan replied.

"Introduce yourself  to someone who cares. Oh wait- no one cares." Victoria giggled in a devil-cheerleader way, and walked off in her cheerleader strut with her cheerleader ponytail bouncing behind her.

"Let me guess." I said. "She's a cheerleader."

"How'd you know?" Megan asked sarcastically. She sighed. "Victoria Dale is a huge pain in the neck."

"Yeah, she gave off that vibe." I nodded. "Don't worry about what she said. She's just jealous."

"I know. I try not to let her get to me." Megan said. "Her Morph form is a tiger. It's pretty suiting, although if I were choosing, I would make her a shark."

Lauren and I smiled at that.

"This is both of our second years here. Last year, I played so many pranks on her, it was hilarious." Megan told us, the memory bringing a smile to her face.

"Do you think we could help you play pranks this year?" I asked.

"Definitely." Megan smiled.

"We'll make a good team." Lauren smiled.

"I think we will." I smiled in return.

We all high-fived each other in a three-way high-five.

Yesterday I had been thinking I wouldn't make any friends.

Now, I knew that I had been wrong.
