Chapter Ten: How Fast?

Madiline wakes up and looks towards the sound of a twig snapping in the far distance , as it had been loud. She looks around and notices she had slept under Sapphire's branch and stood up. She looked at Sapphire as she woke with her black eye, bleeding head, almost broken arm, and one good ankle and the other one sprained.

Sapphire took off the jacket for her arm, took off the rag for her head which her head had healed quickly over night, and her ankles were moist with the moss which had helped. Madiline sighed ," I don't think you should fight, that wouldn't a fair fight."

Sapphire growled in her face as she turned and sat straight the moss falling off her ankles and landed at Madiline's feet. Knowing a retort was coming she stood strong remembering yesterday and how she deserved a punishment. " I believe I will fight . Remember I will fight or die until I get my freedom. You said I could punish you." Madiline nodded and looked down and listened. " Until you feel the pain I felt today, and face it with that same courage you will fight whoever challenges you. Even other rouges, police, animals."

Madiline looked up surprised ," Thanks , I guess . I expected a slap in the face or something."

Sapphire growled as she got down on her feet as her eyes reflected pain." You interrupted me. I also mean myself . If I challenge you we will fight until someone loses or wins. That is your punishment. " Before Madiline opened her mouth to protest Sapphire continue. " Don't ever look your opponent with fear knowing you can't do it. Rouges are strong as we fight for our freedom. Never going to settle in one place." She looked around the her eyes widened . " Anyway, what did the 'boys' do to my picture ? Take it?Steal it?" She looked for it in her bag and Madiline tried to remember and she did.

"They just asked who they were and the guy that , kinda attacked you remembered your father and mother. He had said he thought he saw her a couple months ago." She said confused trying to remember .

Sapphire crossed her arms ," Lying again ? "

Madiline sighed and remembered how she had fought Desmond when Sapphire and Anthony were fighting. The guilt surged over her as she replied ," No! "

Sapphire scoffed," Well that's wrong. Because my mother is dead." She growls and puts her hands on her empty scabbard and she looks at Madiline as if she had just seen a bear. Sapphire puts her fists up and gets in a stance.

Madiline sighed ," No Sapphire, You obviously can't think we'll." Sapphire punched Madiline in the stomach. "
Hey!. What are you doing ?!" Madiline clenched her stomach and looked at Sapphire and looked at her hands and she sighed as she remembered her punishment.

Sapphire smiled ," Yeah too scared. I am to hard to beat." She stood up smiling in Madiline's face still clenching her hands in a fist. Madiline growled she knew Sapphire's challenge hadn't changed her mind. " You lied to me , I could just ditch you here alone with the police. Finally away from me, away from you. And you would be here clueless without me. " Madiline started to heat up but clenched her teeth and turned around. Not seeing Sapphire smirk as she continued. " Your stupid parents wouldn't care if you died without me. And I wouldn't care. You lied to me twice! Why should I even trust you !?" Madiline growled as she glanced behind her. You lied to me twice. Why should I trust you? She recalls.

Madiline growled ," Im not stupid. And everyone deserves a second chance." Madiline knew what Sapphire was doing and sighed and turned around and slapped Sapphire in the face. " Stop it! Your acting crazy! Your trying to make me mad. It's stupid , all of it!" Madiline started to pace but stood and stared Sapphire in the face scowling. Madiline instantly felt sorry and sighed.

Sapphire growled and kicked Madiline's foot, mad . Madiline growled and wanted to hit back but knew she wouldn't listen to Sapphire's stupid rules . She was injured and needed help. " Fine don't listen to me. Your punishment will be to do everything by yourself . Hunting, getting water, fighting . I'll treat you just as I just met you."
